Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE LAYOFF 11/16

Director confirmed it will be on 11/16 and be 20% of the target and it will be ruthless.

Profits are not where they are supposed to be and costs are way too high.

I was laid off from a (different) company after 17 years of service. At our company there was rampant age discrimination in the layoff process. Like someone here said, a lot of it was based on an individual’s relationship with management. But it was also very heavily focused on pushing out “older” people. You were safe if you had 5 or fewer years of experience.

I’m wondering if anyone here feels there was ageism? It’s frustrating that everywhere you look companies want 5 years of experience. But then 10 years later you’re old and cost too much. Is 10-15 years all we can hope to work in today’s world?

I worked for vzw 30 years and was laid off last April. Couldn't be more happier. The way I look at it is that i am in business for myself and that vsw was only my customer. I finished the job and have since moved on to something else. No regrets and no resentments.

I got impacted today. I don't think this is due to the termination of the position. This is purely based on your relationship with the management. If they don't like you then you are screwed. GOD must have better plans for us. I believe everything happens for good. Verizon is not the only company on this earth! The job market is good - Sky is the limit. I hope those who got impacted by this RIF get another job soon.

Have some freaking compassion, people. Where I come from, $3k for a condo is a pretty modest condo. Even more so if that includes the Condo fee/HOA. You may know your market, but you have no idea about others peoples' markets.

Well my dad just got laid off today. He’s been a cell tech for as long as I can remember and I just hate the fact it wasn’t performance based

On the RIF. Karma is a b--ch. Canton has it coming. 80 percent of that store deserve it. Never met such a bunch of selfish a--holes and management encourage that behaviour. The grass is greener.

Much more likely that there will be a massive increase in head count due to the high demand for wireless and fiber services.

the ocean liner to cruiser metaphor is only applicable because we're moving blow for shareholders.

Well then I guess in that case you aren't adding enough value for anyone to keep you on board. Them's the breaks. We have a guy in our group who got riffed last time but was valuable enough that he found a way to stay here. It all boils down to what you personally bring to the table.

All that is true until you are the one with 20 years experience with the company and are on the next RIF list.

More like we are trading in the ocean liner for a cruiser. It will be a bumpy ride, but those of us who get to ride the wave and remain on board will look back and realize that this all was necessary to stay afloat and remain competitive.

The SS Verizon is sinking lads. Captain Lowell has sold off most of the ship. We’ve gone from an ocean liner to a dinghy. Get out while you can. Abandon ship.

$3k/month for a condo? Sounds like you got hosed.

It's rolled like this for the past 3 rounds in retail:

Directors & DMs on a Tuesday

DMs & GMs on Wednesday

GMs give the bad news on Thursdays

My money is on the 16th of Nov

I agree to the fact that I read about the layoff the day before via this website but didn't call my manager . I also overheard there was a mandatory manager meeting the day before in multiple regions .

Usually the DM/HR and GMs have a mandatory meeting the day before a major RIF happend 2x in the past 12 months

In the pacific the job description states “floating sm”. That is what att created when they got rid of the entire indirect channel. Does anybody know who the actual rif will be affecting?

Lots of rumors about massive layoff in retail. Lots of DM and directors movement this month here in Pacific market. But lots of positions opened up for solution managers and sales reps this week. Last year we were short an AM for a month before layoffs but they never posted a position. I am not saying there’s no layoff, but the past 2 layoffs we saw hiring freeze. It’s not the case this time.

Hello everyone, I was part of the layoff in April/May 2017. I received word of this layoff via a txt from a co-worker that shared the link to this website. i questioned the credibility of this website. I then called my store manager on the mobile number and received no answer. I then called the store asking to speak with the manager. When I spoke with the manager of my store asking what was going on with this thread and is it true i was told (I have no idea what you are talking about). I was then served with papers the next day at 11am. from the same manager that said I have no idea what you are talking about..( i get it they need to cover their a--) I had worked with and for this manager for 20 years and thought we were a little more than manager employee relationship. And still received no heads up. Kinda a slap in the face. Good luck to all that may be in situation .
