Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Bye Bye Synergies

T merger to me appears to be about empire sustenance rather than economic efficiency,

T Did nothing with DTV, after 5 years- quite the opposite, destroyed a relatively successful company, AT&T faces the twin pressures of a huge debt load and huge dividend that consumes the vast majority of their cash," to me It is clear that they had to do SOMETHING, even if they don't know what they are doing, taking risks that we do know will rarely work out. But it’s striking how much more things are uncertain today than in the past. So even if AT&T and Time Warner together do not make much obvious sense, well, it’s something.

Bye Bye Synergies...Hee Hee

The market has already judged T and DTV to be a failure.... Look at T stock price - WAY DOWN while at the same time, the market overall has zoomed UP and UP..... Now it appears TW will be a similar mess, so thinks the market..... Insiders who think otherwise have warped vision.

DTVNow is one of many OTT services..... another commodity market with razor thin margins at best. Why is T always the late comer to new technology and services. Last time we had a good thing going was when T was exclusive provider for iPhone.... Since then, Verizon Wireless has dominated..... Now DTV is fizzling.... and the TWC deal appears to be faltering..... Don't think I am right - look at the stock price... T stock s---s... market is going bonkers, while T falls nearly 20% in past year.... talk about a crap investment.

T is destroying everything that was great about DTV. Behind the scenes it’s even worse. The best DTV employees have left. The remainder are going through layoffs every 6-8 months. Business processes that were developed and fine tuned for years have been replaced with T’s archaic methods.

When DTV was bought, They said , they want to negotiate content. Now they are shutting Uverse after spending million. Now DTV will be same failed. CEO and his management did not think that streaming (cheaper) version people want TV. They don’t go to middle class people house and see what they are using. AT&T could have spend money they used for DTV and created Uverse-Now. Look at Netflix, Zulu etc. They are using other ISP and making millions, without buying DTV.

haha, so T spent Billions to create DTV now? the ostrich syndrom!...... that is the kind of news Spin that brings to light a controversial and critical issue, how people can shape the news instead of report it, and sensationalizing stories, based on scanty evidence.

Just think about the Billion saved not having 40% of their UNION workforce

DTV is a bomb. DTV Now will be the same. People all leaving at a rapid pace. DTV service is poor especially in inclement weather. Who doesn't want to watch TV when it rains? We should be seeing even more churn due to the customers who signed up in order to get unlimited cellular data have their contracts coming to an end. Other cord cutting services are superior to DTV Now and are only getting better. Only reason people are getting DTV Now is because of their promos offering free equipment (i.e. a free firestick). Let's not forget what companies like Nest did to Digital Life. If the TW merger doesn't go through in a few years T will be strictly a cellular company ranking third behind Verizon and T-Mobile.

The entire T and DTV merger was about creating DTVNow. Essentially eliminating the operating cost related to DTV (Installation, Hardware, etc...) It will take a few more yrs and a nationwide 5G network before DTVNow is a suitable in home TV solution but that is the goal. Way too early to judge if the T and DTV marriage is a failure as the ultimate goal is still a few yrs away. TW merger is all about an advertising, analytics & content creation revenue stream eliminating the dependency for brick & mortar Retail revenue streams. Revenue streams of the future is business & entertainment all via software. My guess is T will not be involved in hardware or physical retail at all in 5 yrs.
