Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Haven't felt better since I left. I was an FTE, decently paid.

But what a horror show: Spartan office, workplace 20/20 open office was a joke, rude leadership, no clarity or honesty from leadership about job viability or company next steps.

Once they acquired DTV, they gave all the DTV employees shots at management roles at the expense of ATT folks. What a crock.

I seen a gut became Director by taking advantage of my work and calling that as his. I left AT&T as soon as I knew this.

AT&T wants to be like Google or Amazon. It will never happen. The corporate culture is such, that any young person will run for the hills. It is a suffocating culture for those that want to innovate. Randall is clueless. But at least, he is pro homo in the boy scouts.

I'm also someone who left AT&T and have been happier, healthier, and MUCH better paid since leaving. I now make over 3 times what I did at AT&T. When I was at AT&T, almost every day I was called "stupid" and "not a real engineer" despite being the only engineer with a degree on my team. I wrote all the code and did all the infrastructure design and repairs and was always yelled at and put down. HR would yell at me when I complained. I developed very serious health problems from working at AT&T. Since leaving, my health has gone way up, my pay has increased beyond my wildest dreams, and everyone tells me I sound and look happier.

I was talking to a CTO at a company recently who said he hires anyone who said they hated working at AT&T. His reasoning was - it's such a bad place to work and the company gives you no help or resources, so you have to do everything yourself and fight for every inch. He said people who hate it are very resourceful and can fight while people who love AT&T are generally lazy and toxic.

So stay strong. You'll find a new job and wonder how you ever worked at such an awful company.

It worked out better for me to find another employer. If you are fortunate to find other employment, staying with T to collect their severance is like cutting your nose to spite your face (not smart).

I agree with QRG and vjo. I used to work at AT&T. I no longer work there and I am happier and healthier. Please continue your search to find another employer. I experienced some of the same things as QRG. A co worker changed my code behind my back resulting in customer complaints that the data was incorrect. I had to repair what she did. My supervisor took credit for an entire team's work and fooled someone to give him an award for it - the team complained openly to management. These are just examples, there are more. Sorry I had to repeat posting, earlier posting became corrupted somehow.

Everyone should be treated with respect. Unfortunately that went out the door years ago at AT&T. Get used to it.

I would suspect both of you are likely mediocre employees who are always victims. Get a life and get a new job.

I agree with you 100%. Every day is a horror, HR does nothing if you file a complaint, no need to waste your time and what's left of your energy after your nightmare day. I have been trying to find a new job for a long time now, I have about given up hope . When I was hired, I was promised advancement potential, in fact, none exists.
