Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The work culture...

How would describe the work culture and atmosphere at the retail locations right now. From what I read it really sounds like you're constantly worried that you'll lose your jobs.

Quota this month is ridiculous. Not only that, but management is forcing us to take at least an hour out of our day every day to sit in the back and make cold calls for open enrollment. It’s ridiculous and makes quota that much more unattainable.

"You would not be crying if you had a back bone and went Union"

In the old days 130 years ago when going union meant sticking your neck out and maybe getting it broken that may have been true.

But in today's world, going union doesn't take any backbone. It's more like hiring mafia bodyguards that take your money and maybe help you some of the time but only if there's something in it for them. You feel kind of used and emasculated like you've given up control of part of yourself to someone else. But at the same time like a big man because you are part of a big group of guys in the same predicament. You've got a posse. Together you are strong. But hidden deep in there you know that the union is in control and that it doesn't really care about you except for what you bring to it. Kind of like the company.

Quotas are getting more and more ridiculous. Standards are getting higher and more unrealistic. Instead of feeling like a team atmosphere and like you’re being made better, you’re pressured and intimidated into selling more which I imagine is the result of the ridiculous expectations and goals placed on managers. People like myself with bills are finding things tighter and tighter as checks get smaller. I’m looking elsewhere for work.

Morale is at an all time low in every corner of the business. The offices are depressing and filled with sad sales people trying to reach goals that are too lofty. The sales support people are miserable and push back and fight with people all day everyday and Leadership has buried their heads in the sand.

A toxic cesspool!!

I would describe it as toxic. Morale is the lowest I've ever seen it. Managers work load is overwhelming and the expectation to manage all that is being asked is impossible. Quotas are unattainable for most employees. Most feel defeated and no longer value the company since the company no longer values them. DMs have no control so they try to manage with threats and scare tactics. GMs are on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Losing their jobs would be a blessing in disguise.
