New orange contract offer is a joke

Lmao, this new contract is a joke. I seriously hope you guys don’t fall for it. It’s barely cost of living increase along with insurance getting jacked up you’ll see little to no increase.

This provision for saving your job? It’s another joke, what’s stopping Att from just doing a surplus before closing stores down.

No mention on better sick time rules or points system.

Vote no unless you think a bonus for signing is worth the $40 weekly raise lol.

The point system in retail is designed to churn employees. If you have a family with kids chances are that you have medical through Vader and the death star. If you acrue points, you stand a better chance at getting promoted to customer....... which is what the company wants. Then, they replace you with two part timers, which by golly, produce the same as you but cost the company twice as less.

“With paid time off the average full time employee can miss 25 days a year, 17 paid days off, 8 unprotected sick days.”

Not everyone gets the same. In retail we only get 3 paid days off per year. 8 points we get terminated. Sure we have vacation time but we can’t access that in an emergency. And not everyone’s boss is as lenient and allows them to use it even if it is a few days notice. Did you ever think maybe there are single parents out there struggling to figure out what to do in a moments notice when you have sick children? or an emergency where you have to leave work? Or a flat tire? or your car won’t start? Maybe a car accident? none of that matters to ATT. You get a point. The point system is ridiculous.

I think a bank of sick days should be given. Maybe every 30 days an employee gets 1 day banked with a max of 11. I think that would be a fair system.

I’d love to see those complaining go work somewhere else and see if you have a job after calling in for 5 straight days. The point system is more than fair. Some of you need to experience the "real" world then just maybe you’ll appreciate what you have.

Oh you had the flu and were or for a week? What a shame here’s a write up that lasts a year now.

Got the flu last February and was out for 5 days, each day a point was given because it was Work days.

If I happen to get the flu again I either have to chose to come into work or risk getting fired if I get more points. That’s assuming I don’t call out for any other emergency.

How is that fair?

Point system is far from lienient.

Can you explain to me why someone needs to go through all the hoops of filing for fmla because they have the flu? Which may or may not even be covered.

You don’t get 10 sick days(which is in the contract) because 8 absences assuming you are never late will get you fired within a rolling 12 months.

I’m not denying paid days off is great, but they are not usable on short notice. So you make it sound like you can use 25 days and call out which is wrong and misleading. You can use 1 of those days on short notice (2 hour call ahead window).

Otherwise you will be given a point.

If the company allowed a useable 10 sick days without penalization It would be fair. Even to require a doctors note would be acceptable.

However as it stands, if you call out, regardless the reason without advance notice (1day) or using paid time off that can only be requested a month in advance you are SOL.

Just to be transparent, I’ve never been written up for attendance and currently sitting at 1 point. That one point was because I had a terrible fever and refused to go to work like that. So it’s not just people who abuse the system. I’ve been with Att for close to 15 years. I’ve seen plenty of changes and the current attendance system is horrible.

The 6 month rolling window / 1 point for multiple days was abused, I agree and for those who don’t abuse the system now we just suffer if we ever have to call out.

I think a fair system should be one given to employees for their length of employment and a sort of bank of days. Even if they use current pto days, an employee with 10 years more than likely wouldn’t be abusing the system. It’s hires or those with only a few years that killed the system.

It is illegal for an employer to retaliate against an employee for using sick time, yet AT&T gets away with it. Good job CWA

The only problem is if FMLA does not get approved, you get bent. Been there done that. Type B flu is not considered a reason to call out sick. So, the company feels this way, if you puking your guts out, go to work. If you are sick and contagious, go to work. This way, for the week that you have it, you can spread it to other co-workers and customers too. And get some points too, those are always nice to have, try redeeming them through myrewards, let me know how that works out for you too. You know what I love about getting sick in retail.......giving my viruses to my upper management team. What comes around, goes around.

The argument about “the point system” as part of the bargaining is a joke. With paid time off the average full time employee can miss 25 days a year, 17 paid days off, 8 unprotected sick days. That’s after 1 year, I can’t think of any other employer who gives that much time off after 1 year on a job. And if you’re chronically ill you can take FMLA or Short term disability. If it’s a valid, medical reason, it’ll get covered. 95% of those complaining about the point system are the ones abusing it. I worked in a call center 5 years and never called in ONCE. If you can’t show up to work then quit or you deserve to be fired. Factor in shift swaps / exchange time, it’s virtually impossible to point out, unless you’re just lazy with no work ethic. Bare minimum, 25 days, that’s almost a MONTH that you can miss work. It’s called work for a reason. Just show up. The point system is extremely lenient.
