Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Hourly employees are better off than salaried

In the last few years, being a salaried employee at AT&T pretty much means you can kiss your home life goodbye. They keep piling on work on us and expect it to be done in half the time it actually requires to do it. If we have to work extra hours, weekends, late into the night to do it...who cares, there is no extra money out of pocket for them. I'm not sure how much longer I can last, it's been 60+ hours weeks for months now. I've started looking for a new job in the few hours a week I have off that are not spent sleeping.

Can you call out sick without worrying about points? Ummm no. I can’t just call out sick unless I’m really sick. Bargained employees are PROTECTED by points. A bargained employee can have 8 days of unprotected absences without losing their job. Not so with a non-bargained employee.

If a management employee is absent too much he/she can be disciplined at any time at the discretion of their supervisor with a CAP and then miss one more day it’s a PIP and miss another and you’re terminated. No grievances. It just is what it is. All up to their supervisor.

There’s a reason most managers aren’t out sick a lot. If there’s even a whiff that their might be abuse of it they’re hung out to dry.

You are stupid to work 60 hours a week unless you are paid hourly! 40 to 50 should be the absolute max for any salaried employee. Otherwise, you are working on the AT&T Plantation!

Not all ATT management employees are salaried. Some individual contributors (those without direct reports) are hourly non-exempt managers. My group has time stamped just like bargained employees for the past 7+ years and we are paid overtime.

Can you at least call out if you are sick and not fear you are going to lose your job because of points?

Non-management rules over management. Non-management possesses the capability but not the responsibilitiy for getting the job done while management possesses the responsibility for getting the job done but not the capability. Non-management can choose to put in eight hours and then go home, not so for management.

Again, non-management rules.

To the replier. Unless your a tech or service management or retail non management. Those are hourly. All others are lsites as management lvls 1, 2, 3 salaried. I worked 50 to 60+ hours a week for over 13 years plus they want and mandate you use 5 to 10 hours a week of online training. As management your non-bargained and they can fire you at anytime they see fit. When the union contracts are up guess who has to train to do the unions job in case they strike? Non-bargained management but also they must do their regular job. The job market is not easy and has taken many months to find a job. Also if you are hourly non union or union they still have a clause they can reduce them in the case of business downturn.

Who the hell spends 60+ hours at work? That’s your own fault. Just put in 40 and no more they won’t fire you.
