Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Can anyone confirm mass layoff with Donovans org this week?

heard that he was told to cut 30% of costs and it will result in mass layoffs, most of which coming from Mobility.

Most will be level 2 and 3 positions. anyone heard similar?

Is it true? A massive hit against frontline business sellers and technical titles?

AT&T is awesome! They take care of me and never do anything wrong, it's all the Unions fault! I love being a manager! We should get rid of all the unions then T can do whatever they want. Let's do it!!

Work Group can mean anything. You can have a work group of 1. Work Group is defined however HR wants to define it. This do this to divide and conquer and reduce risk of litigation.

It's a shame they call these people 'management'. Very misleading to press and outside company. "Management" outside the company implies supervisory responsibility... Not the case. Most 'managers' in AT&T are individual contributors, salaried employees.... Those left should form unions now. That is the only way to stop cuts in benefits, etc.. going forward. Unfortunately benefits and severance packages for management employees have been whittled away for years, now down to almost nothing.

AT&T also have moved thousands of professional level technical jobs (System admin, programmers etc..) overseas... Many of Donovon's org's are 2/3 contractor/overseas already and they are cutting more domestic.

Sad truth, AT&T derives very little of it's revenue from overseas, yet they ship thousands and thousands of high level tech jobs overseas to countries in eastern Europe and South East Asia.

How productive is a company when employees spend 25% of their time (1/4 of the year - October to December) running scared and worried about their jobs?

All will be L2 & L3 positions outside of "Big Boys Connected Club". It's connections, connections, and some more connections. The company is full of "DEAD WOODS". This is the long and short of its ultimate down fall.

Are they also considered to let Level 1 go as well?

All of our level 2 who are individual contributors got hit. They are going after everyone this time.

Yes, I'm hearing heavily focused on level 3 and 4. Level 2s maybe if they manage people but there are plenty of L2 individual contributors. The push to get span of control to at least 9 or 10 for everyone will likely leave many without a chair when the music stops.

Media is not picking this up because T is doing layoffs throughout the year but to targeted org/work groups. My org Q1 and Q4 layoffs only since 2015 nothing in Q2 or Q3. If you look at the whole layoffs at the end of year it's probably massive, but the numbers quarter over quarter probably do not register when you look at the amount of employees left at T. This is the new normal......

How are all these layoffs not making it into the main media? Is the media afraid of AT&T?

I have been hearing the 30% reduction as well. The funny thing on one hand AT&T says they do not have enough stem people and now they are cutting stem people.
