Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

iPhone launch

Was it just my store or was the iPhone 8 launch a freaking dud? We were projected to do 40 new. Only did 9. Wtf? Apple people also are cheap. Don't want to buy accessories. I think today is a Big telling point of what's to come for big red. Corporate stores are done. Thoughts?

Commission based pay is bad for the customer. You used car salesmen sell people sh1t that they don't need or want just so you can make more money. Absolutely no integrity in wireless whatsoever. The good thing about VZW cutting commissions and paying only $15 and hour is that it will give wireless employees more flexibility in jobs.....you can leave VZW and slide right on over to Burger King and still be making the same amount of money.

There is not a single cable that has only 1 fiber in it! The cable has many fibers...some in tubes and some in loose ribbons. And a strand is what holds the cable up between poles. AGAIN we have someone who thinks they know what they are talking about but doesn't. I splice fiber so I KNOW exactly what it looks like. YOU are the one that is uninformed....just sayin'.

The future is wireless...sorry. Otherwise, why sell off all the West Coast ops to Frontier?

From what I understand (and someone with better knowledge, please correct me), McAdam and his pals bought up a $hit-ton of fiber from XO and Corning with the hopes of interconnecting the nation with with fixed-line 5G "cantennas" on everyone's house providing the "last mile" with line-of-site to one of our towers. This negates having to the lay fiber for that last mile, which is one of the biggest costs within FiOS.

And you're correct that coax can't do the speeds 1GBps necessary for widespread 4K streaming.

@1adp

If you're going to call someone uninformed make sure you are informed on the subject yourself.

Fios uses a single fiber strand. Just sayin'...

@hwh

Cable faster than fios?? No way a coax cable can move a signal faster than light! I don't know if you know this but fios works on a fiber optic pair....fiber optic is glass....light travels over the glass. Another example of an uninformed wireless slug.

Wireless jobs are going to be for kids in highschool trying to make a little extra money. VZW is the new McDonald's. All of you in wireless that are over 25 years old and still working there, time to move out of mommies basement and go get a real job!

@ZlD - LoL. Wireline is so irrelevant. You going to build out fios in your little top right corner of the country? Good for you. Cable internet blows that $hit out of the water anyways.

Haven't had a home phone in over a decade. Keep dreaming those dreams though.

The wireline side of the house funded wireless for years until they were able to become self sufficient and now makes more money than wireline. Now the wireless side is saturated. Wireline is now going to have a major fios build and the pendulum is swinging back to wireline as the breadwinner for the company. Wireless is dying a slow death.

The X is what folks want. I get 1000 questions about the X every day.

Apple people aren’t cheap, they just have no shortage of places to get better cases at better deals. They also place a lot of value on the aesthetics of the phone and don’t always want to cover it up. iPhone launches haven’t been a big deal since the 6 came out.

PS Can a moderator PLEASE get rid of the provocateur spam? That brat needs to go.

I suspect swp has a hidden agenda in that silly post, that of provocateur. Yet the rank and file didn't fall for it.

Nice try troll.

Selling with integrity isn’t something wireless workers know the meaning of. Why can’t i just come into a store to buy a phone without a rep trying to sneak a tablet/hum/hotspot on my account. Maybe i do want one but you wouldn’t know how to actually sell the value of one without holding back info from me. Jerks

Yeah no one cares about the iPhone 8. But more importantly, no one wants to go into Verizon stores anymore. They are hostel environments for customers getting slammed with hums, tablets and overpriced accessories.

Get a clue, it's not just about the iPhone.

Corporate stores will be pared way back as people transition to a self-serve model.

Also....it was slow today because EVERYONE wants the X.

Carrier stores overprice their accessories. Don’t blame the consumer for the fact you guys rip people off.

I could buy a case from you guys for 40 or the same exact case on amazon for 15.
