Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

When the one club closed, every associate that wanted to stay...

They have been and are downsizing. In my 25 years experience with them, and I've been through one closure, the company has been awesome about placing you in another position. In my club when they got rid of the Auditing position, every auditor got another position in the Club and were happy. Maybe that's just our Club. When the one club closed, every associate that wanted to stay with Sams/Walmart, got placed. Don't worry too much...

PoMcOol-3ykp. if i understood the co lead was handed that job and displaced the other assoc. is so i have no sympathy for that person and wrong of the gm. i sure get favoritism tho. and it’s 16 hrs and 12, not 18. total of 28.

It is a crying shame that a 20 year cash office associate will be getting a second severance package offer in the last 3 years the first time around she took 2 months off then accepted a lower paying lead position then after 2 years and a gm that fought for and got a lead position back in to the cash office thus removing the full time position that was there. Making the full time associate find the rest of full time hours else where. Is no going to get a second severance package offer. Only 2 part time positions available in there one 16 hrs one 18 hrs. In order to keep the higher paying position they have to work 51% of there time in the cash office so that leaves 16+15=31 hrs and 18+17=35 but that will be impossible because there is no full time position there any more so forced to take pay cut

PoMcOOl-iiij good point! These Susie sunshine don't worry people need to wake up and smell the coffee. When they eliminate a job code it is with the intent for the company to "lose" that payroll. They want and hope we take the severance. Now there are a few GM's out there that may actually feel bad they are having to do this to long term associates. However, in the end it's about cutting payroll. When the next 5-6 positions (invoice clerk, rec ld, mkt ld, ptc, jewelry, photo) hit the chopping block it is doubtful any club will have 5-6 full time positions sitting in wait to accommodate these people. Instead of being afraid, prepare! Stockpile your remainIng PTO. to try to have a little payout cushion. Most people don't realize the severance does not come immediately. Audit partners whose last day was 6/5/17 did not get their severance until beginning of August! And in states that won't pay unemployment until you've exhausted the # of weeks the severance covers will be in for shock if you're not ready to go nearly 2 months with no pay. It's a crying shame all the way around. But it is our new reality.

So true it's all in who you know at the time of elimination.

PoMcOol. sorry but you are not really grasping what’s going on. that’s great you have an “awesome” club. if i was a p/t cashier or whatever then it would be real easy to say Don’t worry. but 15-30 yr associates that support themselves or a family, they don’t need to hear, don’t worry. you only pick up another job if there’s an opening and it will be at lower pay. no jobs are created to accommodate anyone.

They have been targeting long term associates since roughly 2008-2009 and trying different methods to eliminate those positions or lower the pay for them. Some of these people have been with the company 20-30 years and and do two-three times the work of a newer associate. #6666 eliminated GM's all the way down for silly things just to lower wages.

I was told yesterday that my position is ending. For sure I'm taking the severance package. My thing is, I'm 10 months into a nice Sam's share bonus and have 192 sick hours. Why can't they pay me for this stuff? I earned it.

I'm a receiving lead at a club in Alabama. I've heard rumors that they are doing away with the receiving clerk and lead and night shift altogether. And do more or a 2am til 10 am shift. If this happens I wonder what will they do with me or how am I gonna provide. Should I start looking for another job now or wait it out. That will be a big change in my life being that I have been with the company for 10 years now. It's basically all I know. I will miss my M-F 5-1:30 shift.

I'm a 23 year associate and I've heard that my job of an invoice clerk will soon be elimanted. I personally do way more than that. I drive forklift, unload trucks, check in merchandise, take care of vendors, order supplies, research audits, pay bills and act as a personal assistant to all the managers and associates. I love what I do and I will definitely hate when it comes to an end.

You can take any position open that You qualify for. Problem was audit lead lost over $2 per hour when they took an stocking position. And going from business office to baking cakes isn't something most office people want to take. Our club has ony 1 or 2 full time openings

Unfortunately your club is an exception. I know of several clubs where the audit associates were told there were no full time positions open at all and were given no choice but to take the severance package. What happens to the current full time partners whose jobs have been eliminated since what jobs were open have been filled by former audit teams?

In my club all the audit people could have stayed at a very less paid job and crappy hours. So everyone could probably stay but not a good job for all th ere experience and all the time they put in to get them where they were.

Maybe some clubs will give you a job but not all. My personal experience when layed off was NO positions were open. Over ten thousand lost their jobs that year and in my area their are 3 clubs and nobody was given a job, yet I knew about one club that replaced all. GM, DO maybe?

well i would agree if you don’t care what you have to do. you could say well you have a job as a greeter even tho you are a 25 yr assoc at level 7 or whatever they call it now. there are just so many f/t openings. now mine works on a whose a favorite this month system. that is not true with most of the now asst mgrs but still holds true for the GM. thankfully the worst asst mgr EVER has moved on. so to say oh don’t worry is a bit far fetched unless you are a golden favorite. just call it the way i see it
