We were told by our local to vote NO on the contract. Some of us listened, others didn't. Back pay? Who cares? We were taxed heavily on it. And now the lay-offs begin. The rumor is that in the near future, at least in Sacramento, the company will get the lowest seniority splicers and turn them into prem tech's. Those splicing positions will be back filled by others.

Have anyone considered finding a job in a company that is willing to give you a raise based on your OWN merits? Instead working for AT&T fnding new ways to take your hard earned money and benefits, BTW severance package is next
The union pushing a "no " is not true... CWA mailed out letters to every member saying this is the best they can do for us and to vote yes..
Unions are under assault because corporate America and their toadies in both political parties have devoted huge amounts of money to undermine organized labor.
Automation is a big factor that does eliminate jobs but so does outsourcing.
Too often the union leaders are s---ing up to management and ignoring the members who pay their salaries. It is the kind of corruption that corporate management loves and encourages.
It is all about the money, should working people get a share of the profits their work creates or should it all go in to Randy's pocket.
If Unions are so great, why are only 9% of U.S. workers members of a Union? This figure is dropping every year. Look what the auto unions did to Detroit. CWA will be gone within 10 years, even our stewards dropped out last year.
A lot of times, individuals give up on their dreams; some situations steal their dreams away from them for the collective, I learnt how we frame ourselves with the same wavelength of people around who have a positive outlook about life and who are going somewhere. The guy bashing unions can't even write a proper sentance, or use correct English. News flash, the Union is there to try to protect you against the Company that treats you badly. I don't understand your logic....so they would pay/treat you bettter without one? Odds are probably not. Hurry up, your break at the local Walmart where you make $9.00 an hour is almost up. Better get back to work, there is no union there to protect you when you come back late from it.
The primary reason for layoffs is lack of work. The tax thing is nonsense - if you had not paid tax, you would owe tax attributed to the back pay when you file your return - if you paid too much tax, you get a refund.
Layoffs indicate a revenue issue for AT&T. It is a high dividend stock, indicating that there is no growth.

unions have way too many issues, but if faced with yes and no on a union, i'd go with a yes.
Only diots would belong in today's unions,in America they do not figure out how to turn around their ongoing membership decline, they will die out as a meaningful social and political force. That’s all there is to it. No time to whine about it. CWA and the other major unaffiliated unions in this country have a responsibility to keep organized labor alive. So do it. Every year that union membership goes down represents a failure by the existing union leadership to do what needs to be done.
