@5bgm, fledgling means “in it’s infancy or early days”. The US economy may be a lot of things, but fledging it’s not. Are you confusing it with struggling? Even if you are, that too would be currently puzzling.

center closures based on real estate contracts, i.e. expiration of leases, combined with the status of any state tax abatements. on leases where VZ just started abatement, i.e. 5 years into a 30 year tax abatement, the company would compare the costs of paying back the five years of abated tax versus the continued yearly expense of leaving the center open. elgin moved because of the existing abatement. the Carolinas and Alabama and new mexico also are in abatement status. priority one has been to move out of non right to work states and then focus on lease expiration versus abatement. this is how most fortune 500 companies operate in a fledgling economy.
Maybe VZ is giving English classes in India? That's pretty far East.

If the non Right to Work states were reason for closing call centers, why did Elgin move closer toward Chicago? That could’ve just as easily been shut down.
They'll never close the Irvine Call Center, it's too important.

Chandler is the hub of the West...too many execs work there and with Rancho's 1000 laid off earlier this year, there is absolutely no way it's going anywhere.
Never say never....this time last year the call centers had new hire classes up the wazoo...now they have none.
As soon as i saw Chandler and Alpharetta, I knew the comment was BS.

The company just shut down 5 call centers 10 months ago and service levels show the impact. It'll be a spell before they consider closing any more.
If you work in a call center in a right to work state in a city with a high cost of living your days are numbered. Reducing cost and keeping the unions at bay are Vz priorities.
Wouldn't be the first time people got relocated and then riffed. Imagine that happening in a place like Tulsa.

It would be bad if they closed. In the center I use to work in, Rochester, a lot of the reps relocated to 3 of those centers. I wonder if they will give relocation packages again. Lots of families had a bad holiday season last year and might again this year.
Mankato has a really nice large multi level campus building. A layoff there will hurt the community for sure.
