My office has 18 managers.. all are black except one. 10 years ago all were white except 1
It's not commonly referred to as Vag--a Wireless for nothing. It's well know that if you are a male, especially a white male, getting your first management position (band 6) and then moving past Director (band 5) is much more challenging. You will have to take the positions in places that you do not want to be aka the one that the women did not apply for.
Also, when you apply, look at the direct reports under that person. If there is a higher ratio of men to women you know as a male you will most likely not be getting that job.
Global diversity is Verizon's euphemism for offshoring. So this may be great news depending on your nationality.
During the 2015 RIFs, the layoffs were mostly folks over 40 but the group was very diverse. I worked in the Hilliard Ohio office and there were by far more white people than any other race. Hardly any black people in management. It has been that way since I started with Cellular One back in the early 90's. in IT there were very few black people period - none in Management.
At HQ, Verizon always lays off whites over 50. Almost inevitably, within a few weeks, there are a bunch of new, black faces. A friend told me that in some departments, managers are given performance objectives to make their groups "more diverse." TRANSLATION: they get paid to throw whites, especially those over 50, out the door.
Not trying to defend them but there were some reductions in my area and they were very diverse.
funny, the layoffs never seem to be diverse
over 50 white male, see you later
As long as you u are not an old white male, they want you.
