Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Happy anniversary!!!

October 19 marks one year since I was fired along with a lot of other high achieving Enbridge folks. If any of you still bother to look at this site... Happy Anniversary! Even though, at the time, it was pretty sh--ty, a year removed, thank god we aren't still dealing with the lies, VP favouritism, lack of respect and flimsy integrity. Cheers!

I also worked with some employees who are texting all the time and browsing the internet. I even saw someone playing Pokemon Go on her phone beside her desktop but makes it look like she is working and walk all the way to other places and building to chase the freakin game during office hours. There were even 2 ladies who takes coffee break for an hour and talk some more for another hour but last I heard they are no longer there. Some would even go the the extent of trying to make it look like they work on a specific report and claims credit without the other person who did the real effort know about it. They seem to be privileged. What a gong show.

Same situation in Calgary but different! There is this guy on our HR floor and he is always "working from home" and no one knows what he does here. He got transferred here a few months ago. He is not even a HR person..finance person sitting on our floor. His boss is not even in Calgary so he gets to do whatever ...sweet life he has. One of those people that has friends in high places

So you know of 'a guy is browsing the internet half the time'. At EGD I know of a guy who is browsing the internet 85% of his time. Cyber slacking at its best. Everyone else notices this except his people leader?? Also what about Texting and Productivity?? In my area you have various people, full time and mostly contractors texting all the time - what a huge productivity drain. Is there a company policy for texting at work? Yes there are still lots of useless people here!! Lots of talented people who were let go and celebrating their anniversary of being fired!

The culture can't be described or should we say can't be described by nicer words. There are still good people left in that company but I had worked on some of the most arrogant and useless people there. One guy is browsing the internet half the time but when you approach him for work related questions he would say "can I get back to you coz I am working on 10 different things here". I wonder why he isn't fired yet before I left. I've dealt with some of the most incompetent supervisors who takes more vacation days, sick days, work from home, AWA, company trainings and attend meetings more than 5 staff combined. One person has the same screen open every day and pretend to be very busy so I also wonder why these kind of manpower aren't fired yet. There are stories of someone making $100 an hour just to process invoices. Men, that someone must be really close to someone up high. I had seen some real talents walked out of the door but why are there still useless manpower left. Most people I spoke to just hang on coz they needed the dough and not coz they really liked the place. Some people pretend to keep going but doesn't really care nor trust anyone. I would say it would take the company some time to correct the low engangement, low morale and distrust.

Enbridge’s culture is now so sick it can’t even get out of bed, let alone eat breakfast. Must be the poor strategy diet they’re feeding it. How sick can the culture get before it just dies? What happens when the company actually needs employees to care?

Life outside Enbridge is a blessing! I go to my new job thankful that I am rewarded based on my performance verses riding the coat tails of unethical management. I also feel sorry for the MN and WI employees "asked" to go to line 3 hearings and wear bright green shirts to intimidate the opposition. Show your loyalty by embarrassing yourself and bullying others, or else...

Note to self: Never put an accountant in charge of a company that requires actual leadership.

I’ve observed that, for a good year now, senior leaders, VPs and directors are maintaining a distinct distance between themselves and regular employees. Their body language tells me that the distance isn’t just so they can better keep secrets and avoid building normal human relationships with other people. Rather, the distance is a way for them to hide their shame about their participation in something they know to be wrong. I’m sure that many German people did the same during the Holocost.

Cancer can be beaten. I recommend the board start by cutting out the biggest tumours: AM, VY, KR, and that tiny-handed hanger-on, BN.

Think the company even cares that a ton of us are now all wishing to be let go for that severance. Why stay when they clearly don’t want people there anymore.

Enbridge is a sad old testosterone-fueled company with immature leaders who don’t know any better than to fire their best employees, alienate the community and ruin the corporate culture.

Congratulations to everyone celebrating their anniversary of being fired!

It's my anniversary too, and after the initial ego blow, I cannot be happier. I've rediscovered what I truly enjoy doing, the kind of work I enjoy doing, and the work is coming. There are ups and downs, just like through any transition, but find what you enjoy and the work/cash will come. I know a lot of great people still there, and know they're trying to keep the company going. I hope that it comes out the transition period stronger too.

Good luck to all!

Try this for a description: no one is happy, no one jokes around anymore, people are reluctant to share information, there is an us vs. them feel about interactions between regular employees and VPs/Directors, no one questions authority, there are lots of closed doors and secret conversations, people are concerned about titles, and there is a prevailing lack of trust and sense of fear.

That’s how I’d describe the current state of affairs, despite the RDO’s attempts with the slogans and Yammer.

Re: Severances; Employees who are let go.must sign a confidentiality agreement and aren't allowed to discuss terms of severance packages. It's bs in my opinion, but it is what it is.

Hope you find something soon!

Just don’t morn for Enbridge, as it’s not a happy place to be. There is a profound sickness there that I can’t describe. Even the best people are afflicted with it. A great Canadian company going down.

Agree. The negativity within Enbridge is cancerous, and I don’t think the company will ever be healthy again, financially or otherwise.

The current leaders don’t seem to understand that a company’s success depends on its employees, and that the minute the leaders start abusing them, they will take the company down.

The problems the company is experiencing in the community (sending in bailiffs to claim $14 K of an ENGO’s property yesterday; insisting on destroying the Indigenous wild rice wetlands in Minnesota; being disingenuous about the Line 67 border crossing, the DAPL fiasco) are external manifestations of the internal cancer, the immature leadership team and the slow-witted board.

I’m hoping someone with sense steps in before this once great, although not perfect, company gets carved up into pieces and sold off.

In the meantime, be glad you’re not there.

I wrote the 'My Story' post below this one. I wasn't let go on Oct. 19 but I remember seeing many good people walked out on that day. Little did I know my time would be coming soon as well. Glad to be out of that toxic environment. Onward and upward!

Be glad you’re no longer at Enbridge. By getting layed off, you won the game, even if you don’t know it now.

The company used to be good, but is now filled with lies, backstabbing, ostracism, s-xism and politics. The management is downright offensive.

Congratulations! You deserve something much better.
