Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon's newest commercial commending first responders during the recent hurricanes!! Also gave kudos to the technicians...

That maintained the network during the storms. Verizon should continue to promote their employees in a positive light. The men and women on the front line who respond to the call when the network goes down an also continue to help build and expand the network that generates a tremendous amount of revenue for the company. Hopefully, they remember this when the next landline contract comes up!! Instead of trying to nickel and dime their front line workers, just give tjem a fair contract an move on!!!

Landline had about zero to do with the recent storms. More AT&T than anything else

Verizon's stated goal of the sale was to concentrate its focus on the contiguous Northeast portion of the United State where it's laid FiOS lines. While its network is mostly completely built out, the company is planning to expand its presence in the Boston area by updating its copper lines to fiber. Beyond that, Verizon has no plans to expand its coverage.

But as Verizon gets smaller, it will have difficulty competing with the rest of the pay-TV industry, which is dominated by just a handful of companies. AT&T merged with DirecTV to become the largest pay-TV provider in the country. Comcast is still huge, and Charter Communications just got approval to takeover Time Warner Cable. Verizon simply doesn't have the leverage needed to get the best deals on carriage fees from the cable networks.

As such, Verizon may look to sell the rest of its FiOS assets or merge with another pay-TV provider. DISH Network (NASDAQ:DISH) would certainly be a front-runner considering its sizable pay-TV footprint and expansive portfolio of wireless spectrum licenses. Dish also operates an IPTV service of its own, Sling TV.

The other option is for Verizon to sell off the rest of its FiOS assets while they're near their peak. With subscriber growth slowing drastically over the last couple quarters, it's certainly nearing that point. Its IPTV efforts and expansion into Boston could help, but it's getting close to peak FiOS, which would be the optimal time to divest the rest of those assets and focus on its new digital business.

Having a footprint in less than 25% of the country = irrelevant.

Any questions?

Weird. I am cinstantly seeing Fios commercials on TV and they have ramped up the Fios build throughout the Northeast. Verizon seems to be investing a lot of money on a side of the business everyone on this board is claiming Verizon cares nothing about!!!

There wont be 40K union employees by 2019 when the union contracts are up. The company does not care about wireleine all its money is being invested in wireless.

Ya, you can tell the call center workers out of work because of overseas operation. The commercials are there to sell phone contracts...nothing more.

Wireline is irrelevant. Verizon maintaining it's wireless network after a hurricane is different from the competition doing the same thing in what way exactly.

I'll tell you what way: Verizon loves to market itself as some sort of savior to victims. Just a bunch of fake showboating rolling big red trailers full of nothing into the disaster zone.

Give me a break. Enough with the bull$hit already.

How about promoting the fact that they are a fully american brand!!! In the northeast a major broadband company, Cablevision, was bought out by a a French company!! In the Make America Great Again culture we are currently living in, Verizon should be promoting the fact that they are American based and the great paying jobs they provide for so many local communities!!!

Yeah really!! With wireless competition getting so tight, do they really want 40k employees standing in front of wireless stores denigrating the brand???
