Our elected officials should be asking about the layoffs and outsourcing in the discussion about approving the merger.
As long as we have the same upper management. These guys are Enron all over, build through debt, at some point the bills come due. The outcome will be sweet packages for the architects of this Ponzi scheme and workers payed off or fired with little severance.
This is no longer a telecommunications company, it's some bizarro conglomeration of acquisitions to bring up bonuses.

This is a transitioning (remaking itself) corporation, so this will continue to happen for a while. AT&T has a lot of debt, and will be assuming more if this deal with Time Warner goes through.
To further stress resources, AT&T has to jump through a multitude of needless regulations. When government overreaches into what should be a free market place, it's never good for the employee. If you want job security these days you should retrain and get a job in regulatory. It's depressing, in the country of individual freedom, having its corporations employ almost as many regulatory jobs as productive jobs.
