Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do wireless workers follow a sales process?

I saw a post on the internet that showed a form that looks like AT&T sales reps have to follow.

Stupid stuff such as mentioning someone's name certain amount of times or bringing out a certain amount of accessories and walking them out the door plus a lot more number based "rules"

How the hell do you guys find the time to focus on a sale when you got a two page list you gotta memorize? Who's brilliant idea was this?

I'm in sales but I couldn't imagine doing this, what happened to just building rapport with someone and just selling them on something. Keep it simple they either buy or don't.

All of it it's true, worked for At&t wireless for 7 years. You don't get fired based on numbers (they claim) but look at your behaviours. They can fire you for not mentioning the customers name 3 times for instance, or for not giving them your business card or not opening the door for the customer. Its very simple, they don't like you they will find a way to fire you. In the end, all my co workers and managers that i started with all got fired or quit before they got fired. Stop drinking the Kool Aid people, At&t doesn't care about you or anybody.

This is true in the SE region and depends on the store manager. Thank god I just left think terrible company. My store used to have to follow a checklist with all customers. Show the manager if they were available for DTV and bring out a bin with multiple accessories to try and sell to the customers. Any miss of behavior would be a document coaching and they are trying to discipline everyone.

Another point, rsc used to make 5-6k in commission selling data packs. That day stopped approximately seven years ago, so a lot of the top sales people moved away. Couple that with a portfolio of very commoditized products, and the move to a sales process makes sense. Is it what most salespersons would want to work with, no. But, neither is the salary and commissions.-

Well of course it's going to come off as fake. You're going off a script. The best sales people don't have any scripts or forms they have to follow. They just casually pull information from the customer and use it to sell the customer on he product. These lists I see are pretty much making you sound like mindless robots forcing product on someone.

JD Powers awards are bought, so they don't mean much.

Didn't say it works. It's something that comes off as fake and ingenuine.

Yeah we don't have any kind of forms/process that we have to follow. I just saw these online and i just kept saying "wtf" to myself. It's certainly different from anything I've ever seen in the sales field but seems like it works and you guys don't mind it, but damn this would drive me to quit ASAP

I do every single step religiously. Anything I miss is just a disservice to my customer.

9 straight Wireless Purchase Experience Satisfaction JD Power awards. So the "stupid stuff" you mention is working. in 2017 Retail every company has a unique process that separates them from the rest.

AT&T actually sends secret shoppers in to check that you're following their steps to selling.

That's, at least, a 5 year old model. I don't love it, but it was implemented about the same time the JD Powers awards started coming in. Truthfully, retail sales is a different animal that what it sounds like you do. There is some advantage to that process.
