Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Severance info for Verizon

Your severance is composed of three parts.

1 Two weeks/year with 35 weeks max. Severance base pay is calculated by adding base pay to target STI (10, 12 or 20%). Eg: If actual base pay is 80 K and STI is 12%, then severance base pay is 89.6 K

2 Unused and accrued vacation time ( unused personal hours are not paid in most states)

3 Pro-rated STI. For this, lower threshold rate is used instead of higher target rate.

Saw this in an old thread, thought it needed a bump, as people are always looking for this info. Clearly and precisely put, thanks @ONyCBmm-clse.

You can still access Verizon Foundation if you are a 'retiree'. There's a formula for determining that (Age+years of service>75?). I had 21.7+55 yrs so I met the threshold. From what I can tell, the donations are limited to colleges and universities(*), not any charity or organizations. I tired to enter volunteer time but was rejected.

(*) side note: Given colleges and universities are raping students and parents alike, (how are administrators at colleges different from Lowell, FranSham, etc.), I'm not giving my money to them.

I wish Laid off employees could still access Verizon foundation for company matching donations. That was a good program and a some companies don't have thay.

"Laid off / X employees cannot access about you"

People that have been fired, it's not a layoff, receive a detailed severance calculation. Also, there is at least a 30 day period where a 'soon to be terminated' can still access About You, unless said person is a bad apple.

The STI calculation is certainly a strange formula, but I didn't complain. So as explained in the post, it's made up of two parts:

I was riffed in March 2017. As above, my full target STI was added to my salary, calculated on a weekly basis, and then multiplied by the weeks of severance (35 in my case).

Then they add credit for the weeks already worked, so I got 10 or so weeks of STI at the much lower threshold rate.

I don't know why they don't use the same rate for both (and would assume they would use the threshold)

The severance plan can be found in About You under HR Guidelines / Procedures. It takes some looking around, but it's there.
