Verizon suffers from lack of innovation

Problem in this company is lack of innovation. Too many "cannot do" versus "we can do". IPTV is a great product and just like any other product, it takes development and innovative thought processes. Google, Samsung, and Apple are examples of going against the "cannot do". Wish some of you folks who can see outside the box would just leave or allow for change. We as a company cannot remain as a ma'bell or a wireless company. If the company does not prepare for the future, many of us will be without jobs. Look at how Frontier is struggling, they want to remain in the ma'bell environment, never doing anything outside the box. Their thought process is "stick with what you know". Wrong way of being successful. If IPTV doesn't function correctly then maybe we should all look at solutions. And no I do not drink the kool-aide. Just gets tiring to read so much negativity on these boards. Things change, if you got laid off, hopefully you thought of the potential and prepared for it. I'm sure Samsung faced the same issues we are seeing and look how well they are doing. Even Google with Google Fiber struggled with it and even stopped their implementation in expansion. However the biggest proof is Tesla, unknown territory and now they have developed affordable solar tile roofs which will be cheaper than traditional roofs. Who knew!

I hope @OXtY4Xt-aau does not mind me re-posting this, but I think they are right. Only the companies willing to take the risk of investing in innovation will survive in the long run. Everybody else is simply on borrowed time.

The new Verizon VOD interface is completely retarded and useless. I'm convinced the intent was to steer subscribers away from using on demand all together.

I'm dumping Verizon at the end of my contract and going back to cable. Most of my street already dumped them.

escalation of commitment = Escalation of commitment happens when someone continues to dedicate resources, including time and money, to a failing course of action.

ie: iobi, go90,coffee,expresstrak,focis, and guess what folks we got a great new product called business digital voice 10 years after vonage and others already had the product out. smh but dont tell you managers this you will lose them at understanding the escalation of commitment part!

Verizon definitely lacks innovation. The culture from my perspective doesn't incourage innovation, communication, motivation or transparency. They are kings of obscurity and lack of passion. They do mediocrity really well and because some of the other players in the Industy started off so slow they were able to gobble up a lot customers, money and resources. Is it a top fortune "whatever" company of course. If you ask any companies of that list if they respect Verizon probably not. When I look at a company like Samsung who's vision is to be a top company of the world directly website. Verizon is all about being average or above average

It is not a lack of innovation, because I can guarantee you that there is plenty of innovation. Two key problems are a) long term strategy that is missing, and all the innovation dollars thrown out of the window when every quarter the priorities completely change. I have the impression the strategy is determined in a bar, drinking whiskey, throwing darts and measuring d*ck sizes. And b) the company doesn't have any affinity at all with being a software company. Everything becomes software, but hell nobody in the organization knows how that should be done, what skills, mindset, level of risk taking and passion it needs. Every single venture with regards to software (think of the public cloud and thingspace) was a complete disaster.

No I don't have an issue with the repost. However what people don't understand is that each and every single one of us is Verizon. If people do not realize that misery loves company, we have lost.

Looking enviously over the fence and seeing what other successful companies are doing, thinking that by copying will make us successful, will only lead to more failure. Does anyone think that UPS only thought they do shipping and they are only a FedEx competitor so let me copy? No! They are now into global logistics. They gambled into a space they did not know if they would succeed because their competitors, FedEx, DHL, and USPS had never tried. They went for it and implemented innovation and accepted change. There are actual case studies on UPS showing their success.

Verizon seems to think that the answer is VLSS. Guess what?! Even that doesn't follow the proper Lean Six Sigma process. LSS is not about cutting cost but about doing thing correctly. However, those who chose to implement to the flavor of the company have twisted the process. It is so bad that if you come with Six Sigma certification from another company, it is not recognized or accepted. You have to actually redo it as if you never knew the process. Even our agile processes are being changed because we must twist things to make them conform to the backward ways we do things. Doing something because Google or Apple does it and they were successful is basically a formula of destruction. No one is bold enough to stand up and say enough. It's pretty pathetic that something as simple as being innovative and thinking outside the box is not allowed. I see a lot of talent wasted in this company and just the nonstop complaints of "are we about to be rif", "I got rif, not fair!", and "I hate my leadership". Well can't say you didn't notice all along. Just head over to YouTube and watch some videos on innovation and wake up folks!

Hmmmmmmmmm, I always thought it was a lack of Leadership. A leader skills include vision, Verizon barely has managers... barely, let alone leaders!!!! Unfortunately I don't see anything in Verizon culture that cultivates leadership. For example, what manager approved a commercial where "a dude" steal phones in front of a real employee and she just jokes about it??? And "OATH", a TEAM of a managers had to approve THAT right???!!!! But hey, isn't aggressively cutting costs a good substitute for innovation: "We don't make anything new or great.... but it doesn't cost us much to not do it!!!" Go BIG RED!

I don't see VZ doing any innovation. They jump on a trend that has past it's market viability for new players. Examples. Hum, go90, cloud services, online browser games, and iptv to name a few. Yes I said iptv. They are entering a market that is already crowded with players that are isp independent. But hey if you don't waste a ton of $ on that stuff how can you whip your front line employees with $ saving discipline and stress while the upper management gets the free lunches.
