Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

More layoffs despite working in service emergency conditions

I just don't know how they can justify laying off any more Field Services technicians. The techs that do DSL and POTS repair. The majority of the 21 state footprint are operating in "service emergency" conditions. Meaning that the workload far exceeds capacity. At times, it takes weeks before a tech can get out. I was speaking to Network Services manager the other day, and she said that there were so many open repair tickets that it averaged out to about 20 per day per tech, when it used to average about three. And those in my work group now have to deal with the fallout. Very angry customers. Businesses down for a week or more. I just wonder if this is due to a miscalculation and cutting too many techs, or if this is by design to piss off our wireline customers that we don't want anymore hoping that they will leave?

Many prem techs in some area average less than 3 jobs a day. In a few garages 1 or 2 techs will do the majority of the work and 4 or more techs only 1 to 2 jobs a day.

"You will just need to do more than two jobs a day and not sleep in your truck. Hit the button.: You, are a jackass. No tech gets away with that anymore with GPS and MSOC. They are extremely overworked. They never know when they are going home. Near the end of your scheduled shift, you are directed to do more jobs. And then, on your scheduled day off, you are forced to work. Whoever posted this, is an uninformed turd. Or even worse. A manager.

It is getting quite disgusting. I do understand that wire line POTS and DSL are NOT the future. And I do not disagree with Randall's 2020 vision. But, we are treating these legacy customers with utter disdain. They have relied on these services for years, yet we no longer want to support them. Fine. I understand. But what Randy is doing, is leaving these loyal customers high and dry, without providing an alternate solution. Just pissing away this customer base, to save money. What legacy customer in their right mind, would EVER want the new generation of services from AT&T?
