If you like your politics liberal and your skies grey, Portland, Seattle or the Bay area may be your only real options. The rest of the country is probably a little to "normal" with blue skies and politics from both sides of the aisle. I lived in Portland for a decade working for Intel, and you could not get me to move back for any amount of money. Portland is a wannabe city in almost every aspect, and the regions model for transportation, government, growth boundaries, and entitlements are all failing. Portland may be the perfect place for a select few, but most people are just amused by the clown show it has become.

If Intel does eventually have large layoffs in Oregon, it is going to be really painful for that group of employees. There really is no other significant employer outside of Nike to even look for new job, and the real estate market puffed up on Intel salaries will collapse. If you can escape now, you probably should.

Please stay in the Pacific NW though. You wont be happy anywhere else believe me. I really like Portland myself - but everytime I meet someone from Oregon now I think I visibly roll my eyes. Just get tired of hearing how "it not like or-eee-gone here" - Yeah you wont be happy - and nobody around you will be either

Don't matter how phucked it is you can't leave and nothing local. There are so many in Ronler that have it worse than you and would leave if they could. S---s to be at Intel with a clown at the helm and more layoffs coming. The lucky ones left last year

EDA companies like Mentor, Cadence, Synopsys aren't really "growth" companies in my mind. Not too exciting or fast paced, even when compared to Intel, though they are definitely options.

Mentor Graphics? Granted it's more on the DA side of the house, but I would consider it.
