Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

OP you really hit the nail on the head. But you forgot to add, let's cut millions in expenses while spending millions on construction to make everyone have to be in this "community workplace" b---s--- that nobody wants, everybody hates, and the rest of corporate America gave up on a couple years ago. Oh but the real estate guy vasquez says everybody loves it. Uh huh.

Why are there so many ex-employees trolling this site? Based on most comments, it's not for philanthropic reasons - ie: reaching back to "encourage" employees life is possible beyond Vz. If you think the culture is toxic and the leaders are greedy, keep it to yourselves and go on with life.

These boards are for sharing info on potential, sometimes substantiated, layoff rumors and suggestions for protecting yourself & family via updated info on severance packages, etc.

I'm not a Corp troll who thinks Lowell and the rest are in fallible...in fact, quite the opposite. I encourage my fellow employees to lift their heads, look around and make a plan for your future, either with Vz or without. Too much is happening in the industry and beyond - when the Sh!t hits the fan, you better have a plan!

Im under 40 and I have a bachelors of science in business Mgt. Why stay somewhere of your miserable? You could do real estate, mortgage brokerage, fincial planner or a multitude of other professional services jobs that have potential to make 6 figures. Leaving VZW after 17 years was the best decision I made. Once you get past the fear of breaking off big reds teat, your eyes will open to the vast amount of opportunities. Verizon has become a toxic cesspool of stress and slow decline. How many employees do you know on FMLA for stress/ anxiety/ or other work related misfires. Half of my B2B office was on a revolving FMLA door because they hated VZW and the stress made them sick.

I think these 'grass is greener' stories may have a lot to do with age and circumstance as well. It would be helpful to those of us reading your stories of sunnier days to know:

a - your age, and

b - your education level.

To simply state that things are now great might mislead. Sure, things might be great if you left after 17 years, but you're 37 years old, and you've got a masters in electrical engineering.

But suppose you're 50+, and haven't sought any educational pursuits in over 30 years. Is the picture rosy too?

Without some specifics, this is all meaningless and inconsequential, and could set people up to crash and burn.

That being said, with the job market on the uptick, maybe there is some latitude for opportunities even to less desirable job candidates?

I could not agree more. I recently left after 17 years of wireless. I lost 20lbs, am sleeping better, and over much happier and healthier. My family and friends have noticed the difference. I was a top performing B2B rep and the culture was toxic and abusive. I should have left much sooner than I did. Don't be afraid to leave, I found many opportunities with greater pay and better culture once I actually started looking outside VZW. If your not happy do yourself a favor and leave.

Well said! I regret wasting so much time in that toxic environment! It was the best decision I ever made leaving Verizon! You don't realize how miserable you really are until you leave. Best of luck to everyone that hasn't taken the leap of faith yet. The grass is much greener on the other side.

If the separation of wealth continues it will not be a pleasant place for anyone.

Waiting a few years to get out ,not ready yet ,just talking my time and working to the RULE .Too much blaming the techs for the companies past mistakes,taking it from the customers and upper management.just riding the wave cus it will come crashing down soon
