Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Low pay and impossible bonus goals

The pay at AT&T is ridiculously low compared to other TV companies in the area - at least for field technicians. Especially once you cap out on your six month raises. At least until then, you have something to look forward to. I've also seen what they start new folks on, and it's pretty much on fast food service level. Not sure how they are ever able to actually attract new people with that.

Also, have any of the field employees actually managed to achieve their metric goals required for a bonus? It's literally impossible to get there, so it's more like a dangling carrot than anything else.

I'm almost hoping to be a part of the next layoff round...

i find it easier to meet the goals now that the focus is on quality and not efficiency. i do uverse over copper and fiber as well as DTV.

I guess I have it pretty easy. I'm a premtech and I, along with most of the other techs in my yard, have hit the bonus every single month. My area is IPDSL only - no fiber, vrads, or bonded pair. We also don't do DirecTV and it doesn't look like we will have to. I'm also in TFS, not IEFS. Management is also pretty hands-off. It's like we're in our own little bubble here. It almost seems too good to be true when compared to other areas. But it does make me wonder what the future might hold for my yard since uverse hasn't really changed much in my area since it was introduced here. I keep waiting for them to sell us off to frontier or something.

They won't be needing the expensive legacy techs where there is an abundant source of cheap DTV technicians all over the map ready to be trained, CWA will never see the light

Agreed on bonus issue... They've intentionally bumped up the goals to make them unattainable...
