Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Surplused in March

The more I read about what's going on, I am feeling much better about the timing of my surplus in March. Especially I'm glad I got my 6 months severance package (6 months pay and benefits) before they found a reason to fire me!

Good thing I lived within my means. With the exception of a very manageable mortgage made shorter by a timely refi last year from 30 to 20 years, the severance paid all my debt and provided an emergency fund of about 6 to 12 months! I Rolled over my 401K and partial pension to managed IRA. I haven't gotten any job offers yet as my time with AT&T (18 years)doesn't seem to be impressive.

My next step is collect extended UI insurance and complete the government paid retraining program to obtain PMP certification. My only suggestion is to plan ahead. Hope everything works out for others affected by these layoffs.

Left in march. I volunteered. Landed at the competition with my 6 months of severance still intact. There is life after T. The downside is I actually have to work now.

Stay laser focused,, & look for companies Goldman Sacks, JP Morgan, Google, type of company within their technology divisions, and forget Telcos all together

Your pension have more potential to grow in your hands, than say 3- 4 % a year with Fidelity, potentially increasing your nest egg, leaving AT&T's creative cooked financials worries to others

Good for you, if some of the latest posts proved to be accurate, severance will be cut in half, if you decide to stay 60 days looking for the non existing job offerings

You are smart, I did the same with my 401K and Pension two years ago. Knowing Att still has control over the Pension God for bids something happens they do not have to pay it out. Was advised by Fidelity.

I was laid off in March 2016 after 11 1/2 years. I'm grateful that I lived within my means. GOD is truly good to me. I didn't see that I should move to another location to keep the job. Wow to say it would not happen if I moved there. I pray for others within the company. The main goal for them is to outsource and pay less for employees. Knowing that services are bring set up unethical.
