Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Merger Layoffs (TW / AT&T)

I don't think given the operating structure there are going to be TW layoffs resulting from duplication and redundancy.

Layoffs at the legacy AT&T businesses (Donovan) will continue and likely accelerate to pay for the merger. Where the TW people are going to feel it is from implementation of AT&T's bureaucratic policies.

The belief is that TW is under performing and needs "encouragement". That's the reason AT&T is willing to spend the equivalent of 1/3 of its market value to acquire. Right now, TW would make up less than 20% of AT&T's total revenue. So they are either grossly overpaying or believe TW's assets are under valued relative to the earnings and cash flow. Or both.

I wager Randy already has some outsourcing plans ready for some TW jobs when the deal closes.

We'll do all IT work for them. They have a huge field operations group, we will cut that in half. Help desk to. They are overcomplicating all engineering tasks - that is gonna be streamlined. They hare heavy on PMO, we'll take care off that too - give them one PM to run 10 projects instead one or two projects that they are running now.

TW is f---ed, plain and simple - we will storm in and blow everything up. Just ask DirecTV

There is always layoffs when a merger occurs. Even though TW is a different industry there are going to be redundancies.
