Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What went wrong with Digital Life

We have no idea what is going to happen with Digital Life. It's true that it has been a joke since inception. We never learned from our mistakes. The structure to sell out of stores without even looking at a customer's home was a massive mistake. Free systems that everyone that purchased a phone was signed up for, even though they didn't want it. Unethical sales people that were not held accountable for all the time and money wasted. Contractor companies that the techs had no pride in installing and hacked the installs in. We were handcuffed in not being able to correct them and they grew to realize it causing more issues. If done right, we should have 3 million customers and running strong, but we stuck with poor business practices and more and more busy work was created to make the senior managers feel that something different was happening, when we didn't change a thing and they knew it. Now they are laying off in waves to not turn heads and be noticed. We were told a year ago to have a plan B because it's done on a conference call.

The morons they put in place to implement it had a proven track record of failure, it was doomed from the start. Sadly a lot of good people got s---ed up in the hype and will be hurt by it.

Dude, chill. Can you not make the connection that a a failing part of a business translates to layoffs? Go back to grade school and ask your third grade teacher to explain the basics of economics to you.

Bro this is a layoff board and you guys always flood it with straight up trash. DL failing posts? AT&T advertising posts? It's for LAYOFF RUMORS AND NEWS. The site is called thelayoff.com It's nothing but trolls and garbage posting now. Nobody cares about why DL is failing. Nobody cares about AT&T shady advertising practices..

It's about LAYOFF news

The biggest reason for the failure of DL is pricing...just way too expensive. Competitors offer a better service and a much more reasonable price. The master plan of COR and AR sell it failed miserably.

Easy sparky, abusive language won't be tolerated, if you don't like the comments get a management job at AT &T, soon enough you will be back

Yes, this board is for layoff news, but what's great about this board is people discussing how these layoffs came about. It helps hard working people understand why they're being let go for no fault of their own.

Just because your multi million dollar company doesn't mean you're smart....far from it

It was a good idea but installed by shady contractors with little skills to do the job right! And when trouble was bound to happen who was going to fix it?? A Indian person reading off a troubl flow chart with no clue how the system works....lol

I had DL installed in my home a year ago, and they have NEVER gotten the service to work right! My cameras don't work. What good is the security system?? There have been numerous techs come out to work on it, but they never could seem to quite figure it out. Do you think that stopped AT&T from billing me, even after I called and online chatted with them several times to advise them it's never worked?? Heck no! The last bill was for over $300! I'm not paying for service i never received! They kept saying they were turning it over to the "problem solving department". LOL Yeah right. I never even heard from them.

It's so funny how everyone on this post thinks they know wtf they are talking about and that they are smarter than a multi billion dollar company. LMAO

Take a few examples from a few local stores and think that is the same thing happening all over the country. What once was a board for layoff news is turning into nothing but BS posting after BS posting.

Many people Buy this type of services , but with AT&T is a whole different story, maybe the, track record, and deceptive sales practices had something to do with it

AT&T is doomed to fail in the wake of free market internet environment. T stills has the mentality of the protected utility. They have been allowed by law to make a profit and charge whatever the FCC allowed them to. Over the decades there is no telling how much money they ripped off the paying customers with fees and charges no one understood. I can understand thats what it took to get POTS to every single person who wanted it. However, they went too far with that mentality and I don't think the executives or managers ever cared so long as they played the game and made thier money and got thier pensions funded along with the benefits that you hardly saw anywhere else. The craft workforce was of course protected by the Union, so long as the threat of a strike was real. They really did have some power at one time. But those days are long gone. It's time for this company to sell off everything once again. This time they need to retire the brand once and for all. Let the smaller more agile companies pick up the pieces and give the customer a real service again. If these smaller companies would simply create a work environment that is based on truth and respect for thier employees and give them a real piece of the company, they might help management understand and the work that is done is productive and worth doing.

It failed for many reasons

The product was forced out way to early

Lack of understanding on a knowledge level for sales people and contractors trying to even install it. The system had many flaws, for me personally it never even worked. The whole install process was a headache, I never had it working perfectly. Along with issues on the back end the whole thing was a mess. I'm an employee, I can just imagine if I was a full paying customer. I would be irate, even when the thing was uninstalled I still had to deal with problems with billing and early termination fees that were supposed to be waived.

The pressure to sell forced a lot of the cancellation. I can't tell you how many reps surprised their customers with boxes. It's almost not even their fault, but the constant pressure created this environment .

No rep knew that some houses needed neutral wires or low voltage wires for the thermostats. Little things like that ruin the experience when you sell it on automation let alone home security. Reps were told that customers would save 20% on their home insurance lmao....other things Like the day of install to be told your house won't work with the light switches or that your thermostat requires power which you don't have and it's an addition amount to have an electrician/hvac guy to come.

In the end, it was a product that wasn't refined enough with a sales and install team that didn't know how to do it either.

Today its digital life, tomorrow its DTV. They keep doubling and trippling down on spending and nothing to show for it while the plant rots away and customers flee to actual broadband speeds.

To me the whole digital life product was a solution in search of a problem. Why do I need a smartphone to unlock my door when I can just turn the key? Why do I want to pay another bill every month for something I can do myself?

It's a product that people are not ready for. Of course T couldn't understand that. There's a reason why only 20% of all homes have a security system. They just want to show growth in the industry. This will result in more shareholders investing. However, God forbid they consult people at the store level to see if the product will sell, they would realize it would be a failure. I'm an AR. I've seen a lot of dealers lose their codes because they "couldn't sell this product." Saw a lot of good people lose their jobs for "not being able to sell it". The only true installs were flukes. COR stores had a 91% no install rate. Fraud was rampant just so people could keep their jobs and provide for their families. And even when the installer showed up you had to hope it was installed properly. I've seen so many new products that were going to show growth for T fail; wireless home phones, mifi, tablets, digital life and soon to be DTV. Not to mention features that were added without a customer's knowledge like MPP and roadside assistance. I've yet to meet a customer who knew they were paying for these features much less utilizing them. There's a reason why layoffs are running rampant at T, Incompetence and money. Their profits remain the same as employment dwindles.
