Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs to pay for the merger

I don't think given the operating structure there are going to be TW layoffs resulting from duplication and redundancy. Layoffs at the legacy AT&T businesses (Donovan) will continue and likely accelerate to pay for the merger. Where the TW people are going to feel it is from implementation of AT&T's bureaucratic policies. The belief is that TW is under performing and needs "encouragement". That's the reason AT&T is willing to spend the equivalent of 1/3 of its market value to acquire. Right now, TW would make up less than 20% of AT&T's total revenue. So they are either grossly overpaying or believe TW's assets are under valued relative to the earnings and cash flow. Or both.

T has adopted almost a "user be damned" attitude to employees who need much support. They've concluded it was cheaper to lose 10- 40% of workers than to solve the problems. The cutbacks in support have already been massive.

I expect to hear many more ways T will make people redundant,

Time Warner is going to be hit and hit hard. Don't kid yourself. In some ways, I think they might be worse off than AT&T employees (excluding POTS people).

I talked to my boss about this today. He said there won't be any layoffs because Time Warner is a different type of Company. He guaranteed it so I think we are safe.

I suspect outsourcing work is a big part of Randy's plan for TW.
