Massive layoffs coming. All those over paid studio execs are finished. They all signed new contracts just before the merger but they won’t be honored.

just got laid off from Turner. been there 15+years and made it through 2014 layoffs. My manager never saw the HR hatchet woman before Tuesday of this week. I’m severanced so I can only assume there are more layoffs on the way. After all “It is the ATT way”.

I came from BellSouth in 2007 into the merger with the new ATT (SBC). At Bellsouth we were used to frequent downsizings and the company tried to be lean. ATT at the time had few downsizings and most Bellsouth people were amazed with the extra people ATT kept around. ATT changed with its 2020 goals. The object was not downing sizing overall, but to reduce headcount in legacy areas and hire more people in growth areas.

Much sooner than that, but March also makes sense too.

You can rest assured that the Time Warner folks are going to see their headcount slashed. It's the ATT way. I can't help but believe that someday ATT will need to attract some talented engineering folks, but anyone with a modicum of talent will avoid this cesspool of a company.

I don't think given the operating structure there are going to be TW layoffs resulting from duplication and redundancy. Layoffs at the legacy AT&T businesses (Donovan) will continue and likely accelerate to pay for the merger. Where the TW people are going to feel it is from implementation of AT&T's bureaucratic policies. The belief is that TW is under performing and needs "encouragement". That's the reason AT&T is willing to spend the equivalent of 1/3 of its market value to acquire. Right now, TW would make up less than 20% of AT&T's total revenue. So they are either grossly overpaying or believe TW's assets are under valued relative to the earnings and cash flow. Or both.

I was hired as an ET with Bellsouth in 1999. There has been a layoff announcement every quarter since then. My friends and family can't understand how we can work under the constant pressure of being surplussed every quarter.

Most of the layoffs will be in the duplicated departments. We don't need two legal depts, or two accounting depts, or two marketing depts, for example. Other depts where there isn't duplication won't be DIRECTLY affected. But as anyone working at T can tell you, there's always a possibility of layoffs, even if not related to the acquisition.

Ask your friends from DirecTV how bad of a deal they got ...AT&T= constant layoffs, it is just what they do

Why would there be alot of layoffs? This is one of the first times the company AT&T is acquiring isn’t in the same business.

If the merger deal with TW finalized and done by September then we might get hit with at least 1 layoffs at the end of the year or October when the Fiscal Year end.

start finding a new job now, don't wait for the job-rush when layoffs start.

And when the friendly ATT rep comes around to give his dog and pony show to you as new employees, and tells you, "don't worry about your jobs, we will find a place for each and every one of you if you want to work for ATT". Know that he is lying through his teeth. Cricket engineering and operations teams have intimate knowledge of that bald faced lie.

t welcome to the AT&T family of layoffs

Just like Bellsouth, DirecTV and the TW newcomers , they will face the harsh reality of working for this company, This is rarely good news for about 90% of the staff. Sure, management is fine. After all, they negotiated the deal. But whether you were sold or merged, the outcome is the same…changes will be made across the board. A merger means duplication of many jobs. Duplication = redundancy. Being sold means new management, and they always have new plans for the company. New plans that includes cutbacks and layoff. Basically, watch your back if there's a new name on the front door, we'd experienced and so you will very soon.
