As much as I would like to bash Vz over their debt load it's DEBT to EBITDA is only slightly high than the rest of the SP500. DEBT to EBIDTA has doubled Index wide in the last 10 years which is probably not a good thing. As long as money is cheap it will keep being borrowed. If the market tanks and interest rates climb look for the smart companies to shed debt.

@jcq (corporate cheerleader)

Some dishonest claims in your post, Starting with

"It's not your daddy's Verizon which is what the trolls don't like. Their talents and skills are no longer needed because of the transformation that is underway"

This statement is complete garbage because Verizon's landline workers are working constant overtime.

In our "daddy's" generation, there was no such company as Verizon, but if there had been it would have been all landline at that time.

Therefore the same workers whose skills you claim "are no longer needed", are in reality very much in demand currently, while less traditional telco workers, who were not employed by phone companies back in our parent's era, are the ones currently facing rifs, outsourcing and store closings.

As to the "powerhouse"..

Verizon is a very large company. When describing large companies investment/advertising like to use words like "powerhouse". This does not mean that Verizon could not go under. I don't think I have to remind anyone of all the "powerhouse" companies that have fallen in recent times. Doesn't mean Verizon will, but it is not outside the realm of possibility.

If you have ever read about gardening or landscaping, you have probably heard that damaging a healthy tree's root system can sometimes lead to the death of the tree.

When a tree dies from this damage, particularly a very large established tree, it will sometimes take several years from the time of the original damage before finally causing the death of the tree.

"Haters". Just because some people have made valid criticisms, this doesn't mean they are hateful. Hating our corporate masters, the owners of this country, is the noblest attitude a true patriot can have.

There is no group more hateful then the the rich companies that drain the American people like bloodsucking leeches. None more hateful or more evil than such as these Vampires, and their enablers.

People like you. Your hate is quite evident in every word you write. I pity your ignorance and I despise you.

So how about some more Kool Aide?

Great comment 1jcq.

While many of us feel that debt is something to avoid in our personal lives, in business debt can be a good thing if a company is able to parlay that debt into more profit. Then it is called investment. We'll see how things pan out for Vz in the long term.

While the debt is a burden, it's manageable. When you look at other companies of the same size, there is a direct correlation to the amount of debt. It has only really become a problem because of shrinking wireless revenues in the industry. ATT is carrying just about the same amount of debt and is having the same struggles with wireless decline. While many haters on the here laugh about Oath, its a money maker with small expenses comparatively. Next year it will probably produce 5 billion+ in revenue. That is much more than the sticker price paid. The company has done a very good job of streamlining to reduce costs (layoffs are a shame but redundancy is a waste). I feel you look at the year of yea numbers, the company has already shaved billions in operating expenses. As the company continues to streamline the bloat and develop more IoT products, Media Properties, and reseller agreeements it will make up for the margin loss. Buckle up and enjoy. It's not your daddy's Verizon which is what the trolls don't like. Their talents and skills are no longer needed because of the transformation that is underway.

Analysts like Verizon on the long play. Words like "powerhouse" have been used. The market is fickle because Verizon is no longer just the phone company
