At&t Retail - Wake Up Call

I wanted to add my two cents. It's funny to me that there is this battle for additional benefits and pay for AT&T retail positions. Many of these roles are considered unskilled labor. To still believe that you should be entitled to make as 40k to 60k as a retail sales consultant seems hilarious. All you are is glorified cashiers with no education or technical background. You will see AT&T authorized retailers continue to skyrocket in growth all over as they are not set up to pay crazy benefits for this type of labor. Many of these positions are either 100% commission, hourly + commission without many of the additonal benefits that have become the norm at AT&T. If you are smart you will use the education reimbursement programs to eventually go on into other positions either at the company or somewhere else. Please don't be complacent. The days of having a career with an unskilled labor type of role is over. It will either be Authorized Retailers, Automation of Positions, or more AT&T Experience stores (Apple Store Model) which will continue to push down the pay and benefits. Verizon Wireless has been ahead of the game and has been going in the direction of Authorized Retail for many years. It's time you become more technical in order to survive long term.

If you want to compare value to pay why not look at Randy?

People in the stores should get a decent wage and benefits, if you think T is overpaying the people who do the work in this company you need to take a harder look at what the upper management slackers are getting.

May I ask where the poster works? I guess you've never worked as an rsc, we're expected to handle any problem thrown our way while required to shove products and services down customers' throats. Go f**k yourself ignorant poster.

I hate to agree but the op is right. I had them pay for my degree and got out. Skilled "high stress" sales, HA. An ATT RSC is the lowest stressed decent paying job I ever have. People with no sales experience come to att and show all the "experienced sales pros" how it's done all the time. Use att to get a degree and get out, before you get laid off.

Few reasons youre an idiot. This isnt a cashier job, its a skilled sales position. Not everyone can sell, you get paid based on the extra stuff you can add on. Go work at apple if you want to see non commissioned cashiers. Most sales jobs that are this high pressure make between 45k-100k. This is accross all industries. Car sales, furniture sales, hell even mattress sales.

If you cant sell at att, you lose your job. Ask any rsm or asm, the amount of people who can truly sell in their stores is small.

Now onto "no college degree". Almost all managers and arsms in our area dont have a degree. A bunch of the biz reps dont. Should they make 60-100k? They are unskilled labor. Rscs create a lot more revenue than rsms and asms. Those are the most worthless positions.

Only thing you got right is everyone should be taking tuition aid from att. Get a degree and leave this sh--hole of a company. They want a bunch of high paid, do nothing upper managers and everyone else an outsourced wage slave.

Your comments on AR are funny. Eventually the reliance on AR is going to sink att and verizon. Soooooo much fraud is going on. Sooooo many false numbers.. just wait until the chickens come home to roost. AR hires criminals who are doing criminal things.

Agree with most points except "All you are is glorified cashiers with no education or technical background."...Maybe some but most went through an extensive new hire and product & service training's focused on consulting skills not cashier skills. With that said the Retail & Call Center industry is transforming at a rapid pace and unfortunately software and automation is going to reduce the amount of people needed at physical locations. The bigger issue here is that CWA doesn't evolve, identify industry trends and assist on developing job skills for it's members they just demand 4 yr contracts and force employees to join the MOB. What private sector company would want to continue to deal with that year after year??
