Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Its gonna happen-- yeah "really"---

We're really really really really really gonna strike this time. Well-- only for a day or 2. But we're REALLY gonna do it.. But if we don't - we will say we will strike later-- but only for an hour or so.

Amen my brother!

I heard only 4 people actually walked out today from a call center with almost 200 people. They don't even open on the weekends so they just left 2 hrs early.

All good points. The union is a joke. They've done nothing for 15 years and now suddenly telegraph a pretend strike. Literally nobody cares. Managers are excited...they can sell like machines while their idiot employees sit outside and watch. Some reps are happy for a free weekend off, even with 0 pay (shows how much they really care about making more money, right? Duh! They don't). The rest of the reps are all working so they can cleanup the sales and make bank.

Times have changed, you can't become so dependent in just ONE company, depend on YOU. They say switch jobs every 2-3 years after you master a field, challenge yourself, expand your skills (all that benefits you) well, same goes with a company noways. You can't expect to work with the same company your whole life, you should become an asset and have confidence other companies are competing for employees like you.

I am tired of reading how many years even decades you worked for the company and how unfair it is the company let you go or treat you poorly, why did you stay for 15 treats?! I'm sorry but we are adults here, if you spent 15 yrs with the company, how much time did you spend diversifying your investments? How much did you save? How much debt did you pay off? How much did you pay off your mortgage on top of your monthly payment.

How much did you become an independent person

And... do you have 6 months worth of living expenses saved up like most financial advisors recommend? My guess is most will say no and immediately come up with a long list of excuses why they couldn't when in reality they want to say "I shouldn't have to" like a child disappointed expectations were not met with reality.

Well seems like most of you have no idea what you were talking about since there were very few scabs and alot of participation. But i'd expect nothing less from AT&T s---asses that will believe whatever they are told. Read an article in the post where an AT&T spokesperson said we make $115,00 to $148,000 in commissions alone...? where? kind of b---s--- this company has been selling for awhile. You want to take it up the a--, be my guest. And for all those on this board proclaiming that only bottom feeders want a union you might want to rethink that after today. but you won't. keep sippin the AT&T D...maybe they wont get rid of you after you work for them as hard as most of us do and they decide to save a couple of million instead of showing loyalty for hard work.

For those too concerned with the company outsourcing and reducing jobs, do you honestly believe not showing up to work will make a difference?

It's 2017 and collective representation makes little sense today. Employers want creatitivy and innovation and yes more machines doing the labor. I'm not going to lie when I was a rep the union tried to sell me this idea of "protection" a concept that sounded bizarre but I figured $X amount a money from my paycheck won't break the bank so I agreed. Over the next couple of years I observed union reps support grievances on attendance disciplines. Wow! I couldn't believe it. Punctuality is a sign of reliabity and how can you dispute the fact you didn't show up or were late to work? Then I observed the union encourage wearing red on thursdays. For the most part the same employees with low performance, attendance issues, and this "unionized protection" attitude with an odd sense of pride, it only singled them out. If I was a rep today and saw my peers start walking out I would just shake my head and pray they find away to build mental toughness and find a drive to move forward and not stand on the streets thinking what worked then (back in the day when unions were absolutely necessary) is going to work now.

The real test for this weekend strike is on the union. How many people are not going to strike and stay working? The union does nothing for 3-1/2 years and in the last 6 months before a contract shows up telling these kids they are going to save their jobs and make work better.... every point that the union is fighting for should have been fought 2 contracts back. The union screws these people over with smoke and mirror promises. So AT&T will give in to one of the none important demands of the union. The union will declare a victory and in 2 months att will change the rsc comp plan and make them hourly.

Bigger yet only the cor stores are on strike while the resellers are going to be killing it all weekend. Great way to prove your worth over a reseller that doesn't unionize and works for way less cash. Hope you like collecting unemployement

It's not a true strike if it's already been publicized and the company knows of it. The very definition of a strike means to happen suddenly or unexpectedly. Total incompetence union leadership representing their six-figure salaried colleagues. I'll be a meaningless scab since the union is nothing more than a communist entity.

Any strike that isn't a "strike til we get a fair contract" is only going to further weaken the unions standing.
