True. AT&T should stick with phones and leave content delivery such as satellite and cable to the professionals. They are misguided
3 different short sided opinions on why AT&T bought DTV. I'm with neither company now, but I will say that AT&T products s---ed prior to the purchase of DTV and now they are creating more subpar products with the DTV brand.
Let's face it folks, AT&T is built off of arrogance and misguided ventures.

Dtv is old tech...on its way out to new tech.
T bought them for the programming rights that's all....no one wants that ugly dish mounted to their roof....wake up!!!
At&T products and technology are lame with UVerse and DirectvNOW prime examples. Our best hope is for Congress to stop its purchase of Time-Warner (they don't have the funds) so their venture into big time broadcast/streaming is halted for the sake of DTV subscribers.
AT&T bought DTV not for its tech or service but for its customer base. The only thing the company wanted was to gain the data of DTV customers and market those customers with ATTs products.
DTV is superior (and fifty times the subscribers) than lousy U Verse and AT&T knows it hence the purchase. In other words AT&T needed DTV more than the other way around and now they are in the process of duplicating their loser technology on DTV.
How certain are we on next month with layoffs on a large scale? Seems I have heard that thrown about her a few times now....
The roots of the DTV merger and the failed Straight Path purchase can be directly traced to the failed T-Mobile acquisition. I've never seen or heard of a CEO cost a company so much money and survive.
With T getting outbid that 2020 plan is out the window and with it more jobs because it always falls on the little guy. Let's hope Randall is getting fitted for that parachute right about now.
AT&T should've NEVER bought DTV. No one wants a satellite on their roof and it's still sh-- when the weather is bad. They should've invested that money in to building out a fiber network. Now Randy has set his sights on "content" instead of what we used to do: connecting people better than anyone else. AT&T just got outbid for 5G spectrum a HUGE BLOW for us to remain competitive in wireless. This company is going downhill. Our organization just had a massive layoff 6 months ago and now another layoff next month because of being "over budget" (yeah, Randy's spending too much). Our company is in so much debt it's a joke. I have a feeling AT&T is going to be the next GM needing a government bailout.
