Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Fired today

Lost my job as an SS today. What do I do now? Fight it, unemployment, I'm just so lost. I was not fired due to a layoff, but due to a single mistake that I came to management about. Keep in mind had I not gone to managment to be honest about it, but rather kept my mouth shut I'd still have a job.

S-xual harassment, compermising customer data for personal gain or use, stealing are the main reasons that I know of that can get you terminated immediately. If other issue I will check with HR. If you know anyone who has done similar mistake and is still employed you can use that as a judgment

Honey child pick yourself up

Dust off your dress

Raise your head high

Look around and smile

And as you walk out the door say:

"My journey at Verizon is over".......

Well people in telesales on the phones have done this plenty of times. So there is your case...they cant fire you if they arent firing them for it. They shoukd eithe rmake it so an order cant be completed without a secure pin being entered in system. Or expect mistakes to happen. You were honest about it which (if you are telling the whole story) to me you should not have been fired for that.

Without a warning? I'd hire a lawyer, you will either get your job back or get a nice settlement

Next time get into a union.

No previous verbal or written warnings? Sounds fishy

I didn't finish a securepin by putting it into the system. Customer purchased a full retail phone and didn't make any account changes.

All depends on the reason for termination. Verizon knows labor law. They have plenty of resources for that. The deck is stacked against you.

If they said Your Position has been terminated, then file for unemployment. File anyway but that sounds better than You being terminated.

What did you do?

File an EEOC complaint - it's a slow process but it's free

Why do I have a feeling we're not getting the full story?

Nope. I was just told my position was terminated immediately and walked out.
