AT&T to eliminate 130 jobs in Birmingham, AL Collections Center this Summer

Apr 25, 2017, 6:50am CDT

AT&T is slated to close its Birmingham Collections Center this summer.

The move will eliminate 130 local jobs. According to AL.com, the company will attempt to place those employees and provide severance to those it can't.

"We're adding people in many areas where we're seeing increased customer demand for products and services," an AT&T representative told ALcom. "However, there are also areas where customer demand for our landline services continue to decline, and increasing numbers of our customers now prefer to communicate with us on a 'self-serve' online basis, rather than by phone."

The company hired nearly 550 employees in Alabama last year and currently has has about 150 in-state positions open.
