Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Old Fool

You guys complaining about bring demoted from salary to hourly. You guys are a bunch of wimps. Your still have jobs . My position was officially eliminated last year. I was given 10 minutes to leave the store and not ever come back after 16 years of loyal fulltime service at the age of 60. You younger employees have nothing to complain about. -- Go find another job if you don't like things before you get too old like me and can't find another fulltime job.

Management won't let you be happy doing what you're doing. Once you say you aren't interested in moving up, you're on a list to move out. It IS that simple. They push out experience so they support people willing to work less and "do" more. The last thing this company wants is a 20 year employee who's been in the same position for 10 years.

The move up or move out approach. A person needs to know themselves. If you are happy at what you are doing, then be happy with it. The pay, the benefits doesn't always make for a happier person especially if you are doing a job you do not enjoy doing. So here are the options. Move up if that is what is going to make you happy. Stay where you are and stop crying about it. Or do something to make yourself more valuable and attractive to the company you really want to work for. There is no more of sticking with one job for life. What is your five year plan?

The hubris that accompanies exceptionalism doesn't serve anyone. The "Old Fools" job was eliminated because he was paid too much, had benefits, wasn't going to move to a store where they could eliminate an even higher paid employee. Past performance, ideas, energy, relationships didn't matter. They could eliminate benefits and cut pay by more than 50%.

follet was a good company. It isn't any longer. It isn't worthy of exceptional employees. They fire exceptional employees.
