AT&T's employee count decreased by about 13,000 people -- or about 5 percent -- in a year, according to the company's earnings report for the fourth quarter of 2016. It shrank from 281,450 people at the end of 2015 to 268,540 people at the end of 2016. Recent layoff in Dallas of 54 AT&T employees at the end of March 2017. More to come?

Stephenson told Donovan that with cloud computing IT should be 1/2 its size. Hunker down. IT built an overhead structure that is unsustainable in the "cloud" age. As the company shifts the staff model will shift too.
