Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Thoughts on safeness of position?

Yes, I get it, "no one is safe". I get it, trust me I do. However, my question is, I survived the Exp/Ops specialist cut last October and was moved into the newly-created RSS role. It's basically a mashup of the Exp/Ops role. I work at an "A" store. What are the odds that my position gets the axe on April 6th supposedly? Yes, I am preparing for the worst. I am close to completing a degree and have been saving money like crazy. We're the lowest paid people in the retail channel and there is the least amount of us. Most stores have just 1 of us, some have 2. Would they gain much by even cutting the position with so few making the least out of everyone?

Please, spare us the "no one is safe" speech, we understand. Thanks guys!

Well, only Lowell, Marni, John and Hans were mentioned in the reorg letter, so I would say than anyone else is eligible for RIF.

Understand that we are all a pound of flesh that the company is willing to pay for as long as they need us. Likewise, we have the option of leaving the company whenever we wish. The company has business goals and we have personal goals, and sometimes these goals are at odds with each other. "its not personal, its business".

get your resume prepared. if you're cut while in classes, the company still has to pay for those (make sure you choose the prepaid option so it's already paid). remember that there is often severance and you might qualify for unemployment. i wish you the best of luck, but it doesn't look good.

I mean what do you want to hear? It sounds like you want some sort of reassurance, but honestly your in the wrong business if you are looking for stability.

Ask yourself if you store is busy and does it bring growth to Verizon. Because all Verizon cares about is GROWTH.

Just remember you work in a volitile industry and "Your best was good enough today, but tomorrow you will need to do better."

Cast your attention beyond your four walls of the company and have a look at what's going on in the nation and economy.

While the media and government tells us "ALL IS WELL!!" We see 43 million on food stamps and homeless camps popping up everywhere, tho out of sight of the general public.

What is true today at AT&T will not be true tomorrow. The economy has rolled over after 8 years of "Stimulus" by the Federal Reserve, and there is nothing else they can do.

The collapse of 2008 was not fixed, it was delayed..by loose credit, lowest rates in history, and the printing of trillions of Monopoly Money.

Now their gun is empty, no more bullets, tho they will never tell the public this. But we see layoffs happening in much greater numbers, along with retailers closing everywhere and know something is up.

The internals at your store or company will mean nothing in the face of the macro events about to unfold..
