Local Union presidents and Vice Presidents Never come in to work?!

Anyone have local pres and vpres who almost never come into work unless it's for overtime?

I think it's b---s---. Maybe during contract negotiations things can pick up but almost never come in 3 out of the 4 years of a contract unless it's overtime on Saturdays or out of town work.

What do other local pres and vpres do in your area?

So in other words you are only speaking of your experience. I recommend you run for office. So you can turn the local around. Who's more guilty the one who is doing it or the one who is watching it?

Unreasonable - yes if they were actually doing that. However they are at home until almost noon come into the hall after lunch and go home by 4pm. When you ask them for help they say the company can do what they want. They never work with the managers and 2nd lines to squash issues before they get out of hand. They always attempt to fight problems on the back end after your written up. When they do get you out of a write up it's an agreement to go to a verbal but never anything to prevent the same situation from happening again. The union shouldn't be begging for leniency for us they should be putting the managers to the fire. Training them to not push their weight around but it's the managers who do that and the union who says " let's just talk about it and give him a second chance ". I'm talking legit cases where the company is wrong. Not about lazy workers or workers who get themselves in trouble. Too many presidents and BP residents are getting complacent in getting a union check and not having to be out in the field. There is a reason why many managers used to be union officers. They get buddy buddy and think they are above the members because they are not out there working with us anymore.

Let's be clear what you guys are looking for is unreasonable. For one these are your co workers. They are learning on the job always and for the most part they are handling more than one unit. You want them to be well diverse, fight all of your work grievances, know the contract, know state laws, federal laws, labor board charges out comes, keep in contact with the district for things that may be brewing. Works with all the stewards and you want them to come work and be in daily metric. Randell Stevenson doesn't work that hard

Depending on the size of the local, being the president can be a full time job in itself. Our local president is about 50/50 for time at the union hall and at work in the call center.

The call center I worked at had a CWA vp that also was never around. She would work a full shift maybe once or twice a week, and was basically clueless about anything going on.

Ours almost never get out of the union hall unless it's to attend a function or meeting. Sure as hell never see them take a call.
