I have worked in the SE region(Bell South territory) for 17 years. During this time, I have never been approached by a CWA steward and asked if I wanted to join the Union. At least 9 more techs in my group have the same story. Our CWA reps are too lazy to even recruit new members. They spend their time at Walmart buying hot dogs for the monthly meeting on "Union Activity" time.

I can tell these posts are from Monday morning quarterbacking folks. I didn't hear one statement of what you have done to support the cause of working people. When was the last time you went out to protest for fair working conditions. The union is weak because the laveage is weak. The people, why can't they get things done at the bargaining table because the company knows the employees is lazy. How about you read a book and understand what a movement means. If you expect 5 people in your work unit to make the company do what they say you are nutso. The company gets nervous when all of us employees become unified and speak as one house. But these generation are all about self and that is why the union is weak. Look in the mirror when was last time you took a stand
As a steward who is quitting the company tomorrow...we are not allowed to solicit membership on the clock. You have to do it on a break or off site.
Straight up ignorance. Please explain then why do employees just like you doing the same job become stewards and presidents in the first place? And remember they don't get paid and no perks. Then too it off with daily ungrateful a--holes like you
Union talking points,,,,,, busting my as..... LOL, they get this lines from the same handbook
Not all locals are as described here. There are no perks to being a steward, no extra pay or benefits. A lot of days I bust my a-- trying to keep up with greviances and gripes from my groups all while trying to balance work and make my own numbers as a tech in the southeast. I became a steward strictly because I was tired of seeing fellow techs ran over and threatened. I can assure you a good steward or local president can break a first levels bad habits quickly. If your president doesnt do the job vote them out and vote for and elect a president that you know will do the job. Reach out to a neighboring local and let them know what's going on. Get it fixed asap, nobody else can or is going to do anything about it other than employees in the area of local. Without a good union local your job is going to be hell and get even worse very soon. Try not to associate a lazy president and a few stewards to Cwa as a whole because many of us are standing up for and protecting employees and never get a thanks.
Years ago I was in a position not recognized as bargained for even though in other regions it was. T started taking away benefits and adding job requirements so we reached out to the CWA. We begged for information. We begged for cards to sign but got neither. We finally got a hold of one guy and he said we could sign cards and go in but there was some disagreement regarding which contract we'd be under. He said he'd call back the next day with more information. He never did. We called him back several times but he always had an excuse for why he could talk. He was on an important call. He was on his way out for an appointment. Always something. We finally just gave up. So useless...
Distict 6733 is useless. I had the misfortune of going to them for assistance in filing a grievance. The "vice president" flat out said, "don't expect anything to change....the company can do to you whatever they want". I was really shocked and disgusted that these people run for these positions; not for helping union folks but to "enrich their own pockets" through numerous "stipends" and take "union paid time off" away from work. Unless you're buddies with the stewards, forget about getting any help.
When I was craft the only time I heard from the CWA was when there was an election. LOL
You should have waited for April Fools' Day on April 1 by playing practical jokes and spreading good news to the CWA victims, we called CWA fools' if you think they care, think again , they only care about themselves , long live the fat cats
The CWA (Can't Work At-all) is a joke in the Southeast.. Just look at the website of theirs for local 3204. Even the "President" can't/WON'T post any updates
Unions are horrible jokes. My grandfather was a union steward for a textile mile in SC his whole adult life. He died hating unions. They take your dues, pressure you to strike while paying you beans, and then spend your dues on lobbying politicians. Praise God that I have never been in a collective bargaining position.
This is not the behavior that helps build a strong union that protects it's members and fights management.
