Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CWA Southwest Tentative Agreement Vote NO

On the face of it, it looks like a decent contract. But it is not. This contract, facilitates the companies desire to get rid of us more easily. The changes in JOG make it MUCH easier to get us off the payroll. Educate yourselves. It is a bad deal.

J.O.G is a joke in this contract. Before anyone asks "What is JOG"? It is the Job Offer Guarantee afforded to anyone surplussed that allows them to replace someone who is retiring. With the age of our work force there is always someone retiring and thus an opening is available. Currently, a surplussed employee will be offered a vacated job within their scope of work, i.e. near their home town. With the new contract that is being offered, modifications to the J.O.G. make the "scope of work" to include the 5 State area.

So, you are surplussed in Texas, well we have an opening in Kansas for you. Relocate and rebuild on your own dime, no promise of length of employment once you have settled in. (Going to take it)??

And it is for this reason I am out. I am not alone. Contract looks shiny until you see how the company will be able to cut people. (And still make Billions).

So who makes the decision, management? We know they will choose the a-- kissers.

Does 20 years of good work have no value?

Just more wanna-bee smack that lets management off the hook and tries to blame the union for everything.

Or... is that you Randy?

start laying off with senior workers in mind. reason being they take their jobs for granted because they know if layoffs come around folks under them will be layed off and they will not be harmed by the layoffs. seniorty rule must get the hell out it is not fair to employees that bust their a-- only to be layed off because they do not have seniority,

I personally know people that were surplus moved and continued to be in other declarations within the same year, since they have no seniority they have not recourse but to follow the job, if there is any

Right the union says thay surplus wont end head count?, well the way it works goes as follows, since junior employees can't bump anyone if they are at the bottom of the food chain they are out th door, the ones that have some seniority are bumped by senior employees and displaced to other locations, that is they are willing to move, and this is all under normal surplus declaration period, now add the DTV techs and becomes a total nightmare

I'm not quite sure you understand how layoffs work. Layoffs are done by seniority. The company does get to pick and choose who they want to keep. So go getter or not, senority rules.

Come on now! Let's just sign the contract and get it over with. The way I see it is simple. If you go out there and perform at the bare minimum then you should be worried about the JOG modifications because when s**t hits the fan you'll probably be one of the first ones that kicks rocks. But if you're a hard charger that goes above and beyond then you should have nothing to worry about. What kind of company would keep a lazy POS over a tech that goes above and beyond? Only the lazy employees are worried about the JOG modification and truth be told, I really hope they get rid of all you lazy, good for nothing CWA sheep. I'm voting YES!
