Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Let's Vote yes already! 5G will be the end for all of us.

Why are we even debating about this? Let's sign the contract already and get to work. I know that once this 5G rolls out that means that a lot of the field department will be dismantle because there would be no need for all of this workforce. Let's sign this contract so we can start to save some $$$ and prepared to look for another job. If you're a premises tech or mst then I want you to know something. Our days are numbered so let's get in one more contract before it's too late.

You don't have to wait for 5G.

My side of the business is upgrading over 8000 sites (this year) in my market. These upgrades will help support WLL. Also at this time Small Cell is taking off at a fast and furious rate.

Wondering how Small Cell and WLL will affect traditional wireline services, just do some research.

Anyone that uses the word "costumer," twice, instead of customer, and cannot quickly and successfully proofread and correct, has no clue what he is talking about. Period.

Read an email from the company saying how 5g is looking like it can be rolled out as early as 2018. Which kind of explains why T is drawing out bargaining and resisting signing any contract....

5g won't be fully deployed until the mid 2020's

If you don't see the writing on the wall then you'll probably be one of the first one to get promoted to a costumer. Go online and search for 5G and then you'll see why most of the field service will disappear once 5G is in full effect. So what can we do about this inevitable layoffs? Let's go back to school and get a degree so when the day comes when we all get promoted to costumers not only will we have our 5-20 years of experience but you'll be able to back it up with associates degree or bachelors. Either way I whish all of the best of luck.

When Is 5G Happening? The official 5G standard, known as 5G NR (new radio), probably won't come out until 2018, with full commercial rollouts in 2019 or 2020. But that's not stopping the wireless carriers like Verizon and AT&T from getting a jump on the technologies of course it woud be a good news article, but that will be the extend of it, no more

Verizon and AT&T both insist they'll have "5G" in 2017. This won't be 5G. It'll be non-standard, pre-5G. It could be used for backhaul, or home Internet, or for internally knitting together networks that customers then experience using 4G devices. T-Mobile, for its part, has pooh-poohed these pre-standard rollouts and said it'll be full in with 5G in 2020.

how do you support this statement you made: 5G rolls out that means that a lot of the field department will be dismantle

I agree with the sentiment however T never fully invests in new technology and 5G won't be widely deployed enough to cause a shuttering of jobs .. just look how long it has taken 4G to be deployed the company even came under some heat back in the day with them showing 4G when it was actually HSPA+.
