We need Trumps tax cuts!!!

Everyone call your congressman and tell them to support Trumps corporate tax cuts. This will stop the bleeding for all the struggling companies.

I wasn't talking about wireline at all, just wireless. It's now a commodity, and unless VS does some magic with 5G that competitors cannot quickly nearly match, the wireless as endless profit stream days have gone for good. Coming up with "solutions" like dump Lowell doesn't address the major factor of changing landscape

Oh no. Not the "buggy whip" guy again.

It was precisely your type of thinking that got Verizon into this mess.

Your idiotic analogy makes even less sense now that you are talking competition and saturation in the wireless market.

Usually the whole "buggy whip" argument was used to discuss landline vs wireless.

In any case as has been shown repeatedly, the landline is not really a "buggy whip" when it provides customers with reliable high speed internet in their home. Wireless has yet to replace the landline for home internet, except maybe in areas where the consumer has no other option.

This is without even mentioning business and all the wireline services business still requires.

Maybe one day it will all be wireless, but that day has not yet arrived.

Landline is still alive but is being labelled as "dead" by Verizon because Verizon does not like the regulations and the union workforce that come with it. Therefore they declare the entire network "obsolete" when in reality it is only certain aspects of "landline" service that are outdated.

The main push is to have the work done by non-union.

While VZ management has certainly made lots of poor decisions, I think a lot of the blame here is misplaced. Think of buggy whip manufacturers once the automobile started taking off, i.e. the entire business has changed. There is not a whole lot you can do once your competitors start pricing very aggressively. VzW thought it could justify premium pricing because of "best network" stuff, but the others have networks now that are largely good enough for most people, especially if those people are feeling a financial pinch. The days of wireless as a money maker, justifying lots of stores and jobs, have gone. Just like the old highly profitable Long Distance units of GTE, and all the landline phone rental charges that the Bells used to have

All I know is I have been working for VZW for 20 years and did not see layoffs until after we bought out Vodafone. When we were making money hand over fist layoffs did not exist. I think posts about greed of Verizon Wireless are misplaced. There may be problems with management and purchase decisions and the timing of those decisions, like AOL and YAHOO. But overall it is not a question of greed. VZW is the best company I have ever worked for and believe we will be able to weather the current challenging environment. Hopefully whatever the influences are that are causing so much overseas hiring will be ignored...they are very shortsighted and may in fact cause the companies demise. Anyone ever wonder what sort of impact it will be to American communities, American infrastructure, American lives? The very communities that comprise Verizon Wireless customers. This is a BIG MISTAKE.

@2VEF - Are you really that stupid? Go look at Verizon balance sheet and get back to me then. If Verizon had a zero percent tax rate, they would still be in trouble financially.

As it is, they already are tax cheats. Your equation should look more like this: Lower Taxes = Higher Leadership Pay + More Money Wasted On Crap Like BLOW90 + More Stupid Acquisitions = More Debt

when the company cheated taxes for decades, they still laid people off. they're not struggling, they're awarding bonuses to the board. give them tax cuts and they'll sacrifice more of us to "shareholder value."

jesus christ this is an ignorant post. stop quoting unqualified commenters on fox news.

the tax cuts can't hurt. we are being told the only reason layoffs are necessary is due to revenue issues....lower taxes = more revenue = less lay offs. easy math...easy solution. also lower taxes = more pay = more disposable income = stronger economy = MORE JOBS. duh!

I thought you might like this story from The Washington Post.

People don’t like paying taxes. That’s because they don’t understand them.

Without tax literacy, our debate stagnates.

Whomever posted this nonsense apparently does not have an accounting or finance degree. Cutting taxes doesn't stop the bleeding. Apparently you also failed at basic math too. Seriously thanks for the laughs, now move along. The company is failing due to people like you who thinks the economy has always been rainbows and unicorns.

Verizon needs to pay it's fair share of taxes. They are tax cheats.

Cheat employees, cheat customers and cheat the government. But hey, CREDO!

Thanks for the giggle. Everything is topsy-turvey with #45's worldview, so sure get those tax cuts. That will pay for those defense increases.
