When AT&T moved from San Antonio to Dallas, any idea what percentage of employees said nope to moving?
How many affected are over 40? I predict a class action age discrimination lawsuit.
sounds like Atlanta will be gone eventually then....a lot of people having their lives impacted for sure.
Entertainment group moving to Dallas
Marketing will be moving to El Segundo
Shay said he has hundreds of people in his group affected. It's a big deal
Years ago Boeing moved almost it's entire IT operation out of Washington state. It did this to get rid of the more senior and higher paid people who did not want to disrupt their families with a cross country move.
It is a cold, vicious effort to get rid of older employees.
What about Dallas? I was on the call about the moves and they only mentioned LA. Were Dallas people mentioned on another call?
apparently most of Shay's division will be moving to Dallas.
I wonder how many people elect to take the package and not move. i know lots of people who have said they are not moving no matter what. when you have families close-by and things like church, close friends, etc. it makes it really tough
"One has wonder how the expense of relocating employees is justified if the employees are laid off shortly thereafter. Is the severance paid to the employee offset by some advantage gained by the company for the relocation expense? Otherwise, why is this done? It makes no sense."
That is exactly right. The decisions that this company makes make no sense at all. They don't care if they're releasing valuable employees or not, just get rid of people. And your example is perfect. I know of more than one that have been paid relo packages only to be released a few months later with full severance packages. Att executive management is running this company in the ground. The company's reputation is becoming known, no real engineering talent is interested in working for a company that offers absolutely no job stability. There are many, many better options for them.
Must agree with MUIhh0n-2pcg, as it happened to me, exactly, and worse.

Lots of people have been asking "am I safe?". Forced relocation is not your biggest threat. Job elimination is. Chaos is a good word to use. I have had several friend from other companies relocate in order to keep their jobs. Just about every one of those friends had their job eliminated within 2-3 years of the move. I have also seen people forced to relocate only to be told that there wasn't enough office space in the new location and been told to telecommute full time after they uprooted their families.
EG is the Entertainment Group. Stink-butt (stankey) runs the group.
What is EG management. And is FL safe for now??
The pan is to get rid of as many as possible without looking 2 greedy
But I heard El Segundo is going to be shut down? LOL, not a chance. Not with TW and Silicon Beach factoring in.
"So level 1 and 2 are safe?"
If you didn't get notified today you are moving then safe for TODAY. If you are safe long term it depends on the organization you are a part of and your skill set. They are making it clear that Dallas and El Segundo is where the power will centralized be going forward.
So level 1 and 2 are safe?
Almost all level 4's in EG are going to either Dallas or El Segundo. Most all level 3's and below are staying put but some will be asked to move. The Atlanta EG marketing organization is heavily impacted. Moves are expected to be completed by Jan 2nd for those selected. Sad day for many people with families.
"Does anyone know which managers and EG leadership are going to be forced to relocate yet?"
Almost certainly everyone not already located in Dallas or El Segundo.
Not lies. Email announced from Stanley to the EG group
Lies
Get used to this, will never ends where ever you end up , get out now if you can
But wait ... the nincompoop trolls were saying that El Segundo was going to be shut down. You don't suppose that some of the folks posting rumors here don't know what they're talking about, do you?
As someone who wants to voluntarily relocate to Dallas anyways please force me so it can be company paid. I want that $10,000+ to move!
Ifs been repeatedly said that New Jersey is not considered a centralized location. Atlanta will depend on your job. Moving entire functions so it doesn't matter where you are if your function moves you so too.
Who is affected by this? What about all the people in the Atlanta or New Jersey offices?
I am on the list. I have been praying for this for over 6 months now.
