I have been a part of the AP department for many years. On the beginning of the new fiscal year, I was told I no longer have a job. What I don't understand, why do people in this department who slack off all day still get to keep their job? I have children to feed and a mortgage to pay. It truly broke my heart when I found out first thing that morning. People like MI in the A/P workroom who watch videos on their computer instead of working, or take long personal calls on company time, should feel lucky they were spared in the layoff. I understand the company was hit hard, but why get rid of us workers who put our best foot forward instead of these crap employees?

Everyone has different styles but micromanaging employees and tattling about little things really is demotivating to people. When is that going to change???
Believe me when I say this: Follett did a favor to you by laying you off.
Now you have a chance to potentially work for a company that values you and will not treat you like a number.
Believe me, pretty much any other employer is better at treating employees then Follett.
I agree, sorry you lost your job. There is no rhyme or reason as to how Follett lays off employees. If others have not yet lost their jobs, there time will come. Follett has a long way to fall. Keep your chin up, you have good skills and take advantage of the severance counseling for resumes, interviews etc. It helps.
Sorry you lost your job that stinks. Forgive the sadly remaining spellbound who lecture from high upon their pedestals, they can't help it.
To Post ID: @MNePsNU-anm - Good for you, wasting the time of an FSS rep and adding to THEIR stress, that will show Follett!
It seems like someone is using this site to call out the behavior of another employee. The best thing to do is to just bring this to the attention of a supervisor or manager. It sounds like this is going on in an area where there is not a lot of visibility and the individual is taking advantage of this. Too bad that this person is not working with integrity, but if you are seeing this - report it!! Maybe if a couple of people report it something will be done.
To poster ID MNePsNU-1yve - yes I know that we sit less than a foot away from our fellow coworkers but I work in AP and I know first hand where everyone sit / sat and NONE of the reps that were let go have visibility to the AP workroom unless they are walking through. So there's no way on earth the OP could know what MI was doing all day unless she (and yes I know that the OP is a "she") was constantly away from her desk walking through the workroom.
Follett (as well as other companies) are an "at will" company meaning they can let you go any time they want and you can leave any time you want. You don't see them posting on sites whenever their best employees give their notice that they are vacating their position with the company. They rehire and life goes on for the employer and employee because they are ending your position, not your career. The process is much less difficult than ending a marriage in my opinion. And should my day ever come MNePsNU-1yve that Follett decide to end my position, I will accept it and keep on moving forward in my life and career.
Sorry about your loss. I was there too and it s---s. I was sad and angry too. The outsourcing partner helped me considerably. Where I work now my work is appreciated and my opinion sought out because every voice matters. Reading posts here serves as a reminder Follett did me a favor. Wishing you all the best.

You can be a hard worker and still see the BullSh.t that goes on.
We are less then a foot away from our fellow coworkers.
There are many crap workers and there are many good workers.
In time the crap workers will be weeded out.
These crap workers think they are fooling management but they are not.
Been in a few mgt meetings where phone abusers, break/smoker abusers, Facebook abusers have been brought up. It will all be confronted/investigated in due time. Most of mgt know who the biggest abusers are and they way you struck back, you are probably top on the list.
I'm just curious - if you're such a good worker, how could you possibly know what MI and others are doing ALL day?Seems to me if you had your nose in your work, you wouldn't have time to see what others are doing. And if you're such a good worker, you shouldn't have an issue finding another job so you can pay your mortgage and feed your family; one where you don't have to babysit others and watch them watch videos on their computer and listen to them take long personal phone calls all day. Good luck in your future endeavors!
I'm sorry that you lost your job. I did as well awhile back. The initial impact is hard mostly on a mental end. Know that you didn't do anything wrong but you have to understand that you were let go by a group of morons that viewed you as an employee ID number and nothing more. You have a great transferable skill working in AP and will no doubt land something better. At the end of the day Follett is under stupid leadership and the company is quickly heading for bankruptcy. They are so unorganized especially in their layoffs that little by little their quality talent is either being let go or walking out the door. It's ugly today but I guarantee you will look back at it a year from now and be glad you aren't with them any longer worrying about being let go. I'm now in a job that deals with Follett on the K-12 end and love wasting their reps time just to throw the proposals in the garbage can. I make sure that junk never gets to the higher ups.
If you are over 40 with years of experience and good job performance you are a target for layoff. Hopefully you received a severance package rather than being abused by management until you are forced to leave due to stress and health issues. It's called age discrimination, see post below. Good luck to you! Happy Easter.
