Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

So it begins

This week was our first week without an rss. Managers asking reps how to check in inventory as well as arguing with each other loud about responsibilities. Box count was off first day and manager said too bad. Can't fix it. Now our manager wants us to help stock all accessories and follow the planogram. He's practically in tears. It's pretty funny. Our rss busted a-- and got severanced. Real rewarding. Told the manager, the harder you work the faster you get shown the door. Verizon is going to sh--.

Managers recommendation on how to sell the hum. " You should get this hum because I said it's a good device for you. " Customer doesn't want it. Manager does coaching on me not closing the hum. Thought it was behaviors that were coached?

Best part of this is when our managers are b--ching about all these responsibilities now and still have to hit numbers.... Hahahahahahahaha .

To the OP,

First of all, tell your manager stocking the shelves to match the planogram is not my job title. In fact, the person whose job title it was, you laid off. And that's not my problem. I'll stick to doing my job, thank you very much.

Next, file a grievance for the coaching issue that is now in your record so they can't continue to build a case against you for having a background as a non-productive employee. I'm confident we can get that off your record easily as merely not closing a sale is absolutely no reason for any type of coaching. Customers have the right to decline services and there is no way you're putting that on my rep.

Oh, wait a minute. You guys don't have a union, right? Whoops. I forgot.

Ok, disregard everything I said and carry on doing whatever they want you to do regardless of whether it's your job or not, and continue to take their abuse.

My bad.

Obviously police officers deserve all of the benefits that we can give them, but posting salaries of public employees isn't really a fair comparison. Take a look at their benefits and retirement plans. In order to retire comfortably from Verizon, you would have to sock away quite a bit of your own money while public employees use taxpayer dollars. And that of course would be if you were allowed to get through your fifties and into your sixties at Verizon and not chucked out the door with kids still in high school and college.

Solution specialist 71k? Yeah not these days, maybe 4-5 years ago if you were a top performer. With how much they have changed the quota and how much non sales related responsibilities they dump on you it's more like 45-50k and that's if you're really lucky.

I haven't walked into a Verizon store since 2011. Why? I can call 611 or use the app from my phone. Why would i want to overpay for some accessories i cam get on ebay for pennies to vz dollar? No more free phones..all done on device payment. Switch out sim? My 12 year old can do that! Who needs hum? Kids have no clue what that is and neither do i. Lack of compelling content in a brick and mortar store. Why should they even have them open? Waste!

Understand Verizon wants out of the retail business. There will be many more retail moves to come. Verizon has been, and will continue to quietly close or convert stores across the enterprise. A 65% reduction in direct retail locations by the year 2020 has been implemented.

Average annual salary of solution specialist at VZW: $71k

Nurse: $67k

Teacher: $54k

Police officer: $60k

Entry level lawyer: $67k

Just a bit of a reality check. Maybe we can find a job that asks us to do less and pay us more for an entry level, uneducated role. Maybe. Best of luck to all of us.

Doing inventory is easy. Most RSS's spent a majority of their day stretching out what little work they had to do for the day. Is it at times tedious and annoying, yes. But by no means is it hard.

Be ready because they are going to go back to an all metrics based scoring system for SS. It will be very black and white about whether or not you will be given some sort of corrective action. No more reps b---s---ting the managers about "behaviors". Your numbers will speak for themselves at the end of the month. So go on, don't talk about that Hum or tablet or any other new growth. Forget about SmB or prepaid growth. Keep sitting in the back of the store and hoping for that 10 line family to come in for new service. Oh wait, that won't happen. They want you to be progressed out of the business. Do you think they will pay SS any severance? Of course not. They would much rather terminate you.

Worked for the company for 7 plus years as Ops , Rss. I warned everyone after we are gone you all are in trouble. No one respected our position. They always thought it was a easy task that anyone can do it. From checking in inventory, counts to merchandising. Handling Reps mistakes that they would never correct , we had to do their job as well. They will sink and fast.

I'm an RSS who was affected but I'm trying to transition to SS with the company. Walked into my store the other day to see 5 reps checking in inventory that one RSS used to check in. GM and SMs asking me how to do things.....our productivity is shot...they could have at least kept one RSS from a business stand point because the money we will lose in inventory is far greater than the payroll they gained. All it takes is a few phones per location to significantly kill our profit. Honestly worried about being SS in a location without ops. Was told part of cuts were because the new system is easier wich is bull. The new system is flawed, slow, and doesn't track accessories like it used to. Just overall concerned about this next year with the company. If we had taken out some recognition events I wonder how many jobs couldve been saved...honestly. And there were 3 awards I won prior to the changes that I don't forsee I will get. Ops never gets recognized, but they couldn't take out one SS recognition event to save maybe 1000 jobs? Concerned but trying to be positive. After all, they don't call it the corporate jungle for nothing. Just have to try and be the predator instead of the kill. Don't believe your job is safe. But be prepared for the worst.

"I'm having managers telling me I have to commit to mentioning hum to every customer regardless of why their here. Yeah that's how you sell a product by trying to slam it on everyone."

Because, once in ten thousand times, someone looking for a replacement power cord will hear you talk about hum and say "Wow, I never knew, that's exactly what I want!"

OK, once in a million times...

The coach on behavior is something I never understood when I worked for them. I'm having managers telling me I have to commit to mentioning hum to every customer regardless of why their here. Yeah that's how you sell a product by trying to slam it on everyone. Why not sit them down and discover their needs and sell the value of the product for those that could benefit. Sounding like a robot repeating the same thing to every customer helps no one.

And while sales reps sit their and argue with managers about responsibilities just remember this. Verizon considers you their b--ch. Sit down and make a list of everything they expect of you and keep in mind you have quota to meet as well. At what point do you say enough is enough and speak up. Wouldn't be s problem if you got compensated for what is essentially doing the work of several different departments and not be held to high quotas at the same time, but until you speak up and say enough is enough you will continue to get buried with "responsibilities"

You coach on performance not behaviors. Wonder why performance is down. Idiots at the top think behaviors are all that matters.
