I've been told that it has never happened but this round of layoffs came out of nowhere so now I'm worried that Solutions Specialist will be next in the VZW layoffs.
Managers that have been around for years have said VZW would never and will never layoff reps. Reps are super valuable and that Reps have the safest job in VZW.
Does anyone have any info on this???? Are Reps next??
Wireline is also Union, and they're laughing all the way to the bank. In the Wireless side, my store is about as prepared for not having an RSS as they can be. There are already significant errors with the inventory over the past week and a half though and it's going to get worse. Honestly, I do not want the management to even be concerned with Inventory, let alone OMM because the successful managers are out there alongside their peers recommending, adding value and observing, not hiding at a desk. wSAP is a great upgrade compared to the old system VZW used for inventory. HOWEVER, it's so new and not 'simple' - it's about as simple as someone sitting at a PC who never used Excel for their first time and is clicking random sh-- into cells. Most of the conversion is going to involve self-help guides; Nothing will beat actually doing it though and unfortunately now that Ops is removed from the store level, they're screwed.
They won't layoff SS's because they don't want to pay you severance. They will make quotas higher so you don't make any money and put more responsibilities on you to piss you off. That will weed out the lower performing reps and significantly reduce headcount and save them $$. Store closures are the only major concern for reps not layoffs.
I speculate verizon will be like Apple does and only be in big cities. I suspect to see many more layoffs in sales but no department is safe not sales, network, or any other department
Lololol, tell that to all the reps who got popped when the Circuit City kiosks closed. Layoffs have happend to reps in the past.
At least they will never touch wireless network operations.
Who cares. I don't know anyone who shops for phones or service in a store. Everything may be done online for less hassle and less $$$.
Retails days are numbered.
By the way, have you seen mint sims price of service for 2GB of data a month and unlimited voice and text? Its only $13 a month. Why would I ever get Verizon service?

While pip'ing might be cheaper, I would have thought that they would also change the (frankly generous) severance policy. I doubt if most people even ask about it when considering a job (checked this with my daughters who have both just started new jobs, didn't come up!) so it wouldn't impact hiring much and make things much cheaper if you want to RIF.
They don't want to pay you severance so they would never lay you off, MGMT has been instructed to coach people out the door....If you don't hit all numbers you will be pip'ed out. This is per our dm.
They will continue to quietly close stores or transfer them to AR. QUIETLY is the key word.
well they can't lay off solution specialist because who else are they going to dump all the work on and still demand quota from. Remember even though you were hired to do sales and hit numbers you also have many other job titles under you belt. Someone's gotta be the b--ch in Verizon
Wireline is a big place, and while some groups are hiring, others are RIFing as well. But I agree with the no safe place in VzW: history isn't a good guide as until recently Wireless was the growth engine. Once that stops being true (e.g. race to the bottom with unlimited) any security is up for reconsideration
No one is safe right now in any Wireless position....I don't know where you are and why you haven't heard that by now. But there is no safe position in Wireless today at Verizon. Wireline, on the other hand, is a different story....They are actually hiring.
