Verizon has had to do little over it life span on the wireless side but sit back and grow at double digits each year. Now that everyone that wants a device has three they are forced to face the need for true "leadership" to make progress/numbers. Based on what we have seen so far they have little leadership capability and only mediocre management skills. The people that got laid off will be the ones coming out ahead versus those left behind. Other companies have a much sharper strategy and leadership buying assets like Direct TV versus AOL and Yahoo !

Fiber is the only way to go but the telcos are not in the infrastructure business because it makes the stockholders cry. It'll take a government directive to improve our laughable wireline infrastructure and wireless will never do the job despite Lowell's "quick buck wireless" pipe dreams. They've been offered some dollars from the government but it will take a bill through Congress to get them on the ball OR if more towns just take the initiative and do it all themselves they might jump back on the FiOS horse again.
Mgt ineptitude is alarmingly high...at every level. If company had halfway decent leadership we wouldn't let some 3rd place foreign backed tmo even near us. Yet they kicked our a-- on every uncarrier initiative..now vz follows their lead.
Don't get me started on wireline side. Vz leaders sold about everything physical they can. Sad to watch such once proud telecom stripped of its roots....by some morons who have no clue how to run a biz...moreless how to treat employees.
All it took to destroy verizon was the amazing decision to replace a pretty decent albeit greedy CEO who had actually landline knowledge, Ivan Seidenberg, and replace him with a greedy old fool who despised wireline and thought that at age 70 he could manipulate the wireless sector to replace all landlines. McAdam is THE reason verizons best days ended right around the year 2011 or so.
I remember when I started landline in 1998 I was told by other workers that wireless would have taken all landlines by 2010. Nostradamas foiled again, thanks to a clueless wireless loving fool with short term vision. Time for mcadam to get his adult diapers changed in the old folks home. Next CEO will have to clean up the mess like trump has to clean up Obama said mess who had to clean up bush's mess who had to clean up Clintons' mess how had to clean up bush 41s mess.

I have questioned the purchase of so many companies that do not seem to have a connection with each other. For those of you that think Verizon is going anywhere anytime soon, you better think again. This company is still making money hand over fist. What they need to do is clean up 75% of the leadership that got promoted because of their willingness to move and not because they earned it. Verizon wireless has a ton of middle management that wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between a moon rock and cell phone.

I have been with Verizon since 2000 and it didn't take me long to realize that Verizon couldn't help but make money despite how inefficiently they run the place so they continued on BAU. All the while technology was changing everything; wireless was growing by leaps and bounds, and competitors, both small and large, were running their own fiber and slowly eating Verizon's lunch, and markets were trending away from traditional telecom service. So instead of tightening the belt and increasing efficiency, leadership gave up on wireline, sold what they could, let the rest fall into shambles, and hedged their bets on having the best wireless network.
Verizon did have the best network for a long time, but just like those competitors did to wireline, they slowly ate away at Verizon's customer base. I will give kudos to the company for sorta kinda seeing this trend, but instead of doing anything about it, they decided to transform into a media company, about 2 years too late, and only after they realized that won't work, they decided to begin competing in wireless again.
I'm sure being the first, if they can afford to fund it with everything Verizon being in decline, to 5g will give Verizon a huge boast until the completion catches up, but the question is, has Verizon learned they need to be proactive, not reactive? History has shown that under the current leadership the answer is no.

Its too late mr mcdumba@*#s put this company int 221billion in debt buying crapola companies,the death spiral started a long time ago ,watch the next few quarter's i say by the 3rd to 4th quarter if the dividend gets cut then this place will tank,just watch ,they better pray to god their 5g works well cause that is the only thing that will save them
Ivan Seidenberg's vision is the only part of Verizon that has growth today. As a matter of fact, his fiber genius is the backbone of the wireless network.
C.Michael Armstrong the great AT&T CEO said at his retirement party in 2001..."Whoever builds the best fiber network will win" He was speaking of cable companies and wireless companies.
Guess who has the best fiber network in both those categories? It's ours for the taking.
