Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Am I the only one in Retail praying for a package?

I'm so over the current leadership and their nonsense. I'm praying for a severance package. Please let me go. I might cry if I don't get one.

i was apart of the call center layoff. we got option of relo or packages. i took the package i would imagine it would be the same for retail. That said glad I didnt take the relo and got off this sinking ship. Landline management comming in ruined wireless amongst other things.

$50k? That's not very likely. Verizon RIFs are two weeks of pay for every year of service. I have seen some high severance, but the highest was about $80k for someone that was a highly paid GM with over 20 years of service.

@dnq - you jackwagon. If these people had "real responsibilities" then they would have a rainy day fund.

But instead they are busy driving foreign luxury cars.

@fgz... Aw.. Now Now...it's ok. Seems like you have some misplaced anger. Don't cry. You're a little dense let me break it down... A severance is a lump sum of money awarded to employees who are separated from the business due to a lay off. This money will help pay the bills while they find a job. So therefore.. no.. not exactly life changing but certainly a help. Sounds to me like you probably still live at home with your parents and it would be so easy for you to quit and find a new job. Well.. for people

With real life responsibilities like children and a spouse and a mortgage... that's easier said than done.

@hrw - when did I say it was okay for a fat union slob to get an eisp? And besides, that's not the point. The point is if you HATE working for Verizon, then quit.

Everyone plays the victim "oh please let me get a package because I'm miserable here". Bull$hit. Get the f-- outta here and quit. You think $50 grand maybe $30 grand after taxes is going to change your life?

Nothing wrong with waiting for a package IMO. If you think you can fairly easily get another job, and you suspect RIFs are coming, not waiting for it can be a huge economic loss: up to 35 weeks, plus vacation pay, + STIP (or whatever) + the same period of paid benefits.

And if you think getting a job is going to be hard, even more reason to wait!

@fve... So let me get this straight... if a Union employee gets let go it's ok that they get 50K RIF but if a retail employee wants a package they are looking for a handout? FOH. @Breadpanman... sounds like your lazy af and reflecting your "minimal efforts" on others. Don't worry... you're time for a package is coming. Keep drinking that koolaid clown.

If you are so unhappy at your job it is easy quit. But you wont because you like the good wages and good benefits that you get for your very minimal efforts. Verizon continues to give 401k match and industry leading benefits. Anyone waiting for a severance package is to much of a coward to quit and find a job that would make them happier. In the end verizon will cut whatever jobs make the most business since and reposition anyone that is an asset to the company because that makes good business since. I am proud to work for a company that can recognize were money is being wasted and reallocate it to where it can become more profitable.

The days of good commissions are over. I've been a rep 6+ years and not making nearly as much the last year as previous. Time to move on and sometimes this is the push needed. Unfortunately it won't be my spot that gets handed an offer

Yeah retail leadership has turned into a giant popularity contest and we all went back to high school. And I think I have the most petty and unprofessional DM of them all! I wouldn't mind either... If it's large enough that is!
