I used to work with real estate at Verizon. I can tell you makes it more sense to close a store, or transfer the store to an indirect on a case by case basis because of lease expiration dates and some lease will allow subleasing while others will not.
It does not make sense to one day close a bunch of stores at the same time. But I have been seeing Verizon stores close, or get transferred to indirect slowly over the past year. So it would seem leadership will keep doing this until they get the company owned stores down to whatever number they are going for. But it will take time.
