If you work in wireless and feel you don't need a Union let me ask you how it's fair that as a sales rep you're not only responsible for quota but ask yourself how many other jobs are you doing while trying to sell. Think about how much more money your check would be if you focused on only selling. Think about each time quota goes up how it's harder to make what you used to make. Think about when VZW talks about all this money they made in the quarter who helped contribute to those numbers. Don't you think you deserve a little more? Don't you think you deserve to do your job and not everyone else's job? There was a time a wireless worker had one job and that was to sell and during those days you could make 6 figures as a sales rep. I seen it happen I was there during those days. Company was making less money those days too so what happened?

Interesting posts on this topic. I used to go to union meetings and the CWA goons always had us stand for the pledge of allegiance to the flag, I decided once to remain seated and the mafia union guy ripped me one and never went to another meeting. Not a huge fan of crapitalism, america... the union which is wildly Democrat, so by default should be against the flag, rah-rah usa chants and the typical stupid redneck American nonsense, wants to pull the pro-usa crap and it's so fake and disgusting.

Democrats only when it's time to vote, then Republicans when it's time to collect your dues every week... hires after 2003 have no layoff security and the company will find a reason to can you if they REALLY want to, union or not.

@TIG "B" did not get her job back, she won the case for unfair termination, VZW appealed and as of right now she had no job.

How do explain the layoff in Nov? a CWA shop steward got the boot. How come CWA didn't protect her? If CWA is interested in well being of an employee, how come it took an employee almost a year to transfer to a store thats 15 mins walking distance from his house compare to a 60+ min drive. Wouldn't CWA want their members to have better quality of life?

Look my store is losing an RSS, an amazing RSS, a person, a extremely hard worker. He worked under 4 different DMs, 4 Managers and was go to person for any operations related stuff for the zone. As an SS I do not want to see him go, he makes my job easier, makes management jobs easier and we need him, but tomorrow CWA will not be there when he gets the boot.

The problem with unions is that the best employees can't get ahead because of tenure and the worst employees become impossible to get rid of. Just ask our customers or the people in sales who have to deal with the unionized groups -- the level of service from them is horrendous.

The really good employees who can't get ahead end up leaving and at the end of the day all you're left with are the marginal to bad employees who are protected by the union.

The surest way to turn VzW from a profitable, relatively good customer service company into an unprofitable despised-by-customers company is to start unionizing their employees.

CWA in the retail environment is a joke.

If you want seniority to be the only deciding factor into who gets promoted, raises, priority time off requests, etc. then what the f--- are you doing working in retail?

Go work somewhere else.

Verion execs don't want you to go union. So just for that fact alone and the downward spiral that's happening in retail, join one! Who cares. Negotiations take forever. Look for another job in the mean time and get out of this hell hole leaving them stuck with a union.

@okz This country was also built on slavery. What's your point? Things change. Starting pay is $12-$15 per hour plus commission. People in air conditioned retail stores making in upwards of $75,000/year without a college degree seems pretty fair without a union. Those landline guys are outside working manual labor. And they don't get paid commission.

I worked for VZW and for AT&T. Despite having a union, AT&T had lower starting pay, lower commission, more expensive healthcare, and they promoted based off seniority, not talent. Take your ignorant "get out of America" b---s--- and shove it up your a--. You have no clue what you're talking about. It's not the 1920's any longer.

@cob your an idiot

This country was built off unions . You wouldn't have child safety laws , 40 hour work weeks, vacation and other great benefits if it was not for Unions.

Look up the real meaning of Labor Day .

I would rather pay a small union fee than a lawyer when this company tries to F you and denied you access to a religious event , or locks you out of the inventory with a physical key during business hours and tells you you can't get a phone for you customer until you sell them a bose speaker .

When the company Fs you out ofna raise cause you spoke you for a bad director .

When you move To a more expensive state and the company doesn't raise your pay .

Also look at your poor pay $12-15 hour ...

Vz landline starting pay is $25 And up with guaranteed pay raises every 6 months + cost of living increases .

Yea do your research before you talk trash about union. Get out of America if you don't believe in union .

Do not join CWA. I'm a Brooklyn employee and guess what we are in CWA. On page 2 of Brooklyn union contract it does state that you can be laid off, makes it easier to be fired and so on. They just collect your money every pay check.

In fact when Nov lay offs happened out ES and Ops got laid off too. CWA did nothing to try to save those jobs or another employee from being fired on something it was considered verbal or written at most prior to CWA.

If it wasn't for the union and the strike, maybe Verizon wouldn't have lost so much money last year. Perhaps that plays a role in why wireless workers are being laid off now.

As a former airline employee, union is he way to go.

ALPA has saved countless jobs from being arbitrarily outsourced. Additionally, they've held off rounds of layoffs...which by my count is 4 in the last 3 years alone.

Organize, my brothers and sisters. Or face a bleak future.

A union can do nothing but help. Look at quota, pay, a--hole GMs that sit in their office all day and annoy you with hum. Wait these GMs are now women that were only hired due to their gender. What has this company become.

I don't have a dog in this hunt anymore but seriously, are you morons? if your a wage worker its a no brainer. You have no leverage at all without a union. looks like decades of the VZ propaganda has paid off. Time to start kicking out these incompetent executives making these horrible business decisions instead of taking it out on the hourly wage workers. they literally get paid hundreds of times more than you and you still defend them. there is 0 need to lay off people if the company is making hundreds of millions in profits, its a decision they are making to put other priorities besides you first, you can change that if you organize. shaking my head.

@cob

Learn English, how did they hire you? If you're not in the bottom 20% of employees you are definitely in the bottom 20% of intelligence.

Nah I'm good bro. Y'all trying to capitalize and take advantage of scared employees. I enjoy my RYAs, i enjoy my ability to easily put in days off/vacation without union approval. Also don't want a tenure employee to be able to get days off/vacation even when i put in first or get privileged treatment when I am more skilled and perform better. Plus why the heck would i want to pay a union fee (another tax) out my check for someone else to speak for me when my personal interests aren't the focus but instead the union itself. Gtfo with that non sense. You played yourself if you inside a union.

Speaking as a GM, I support this message. It's time for the reps to protect themselves. You can't stop layoffs, but maybe you can get a better quota.
