Unions are a thing of the past. Protecting the worker...yeah, right. There's nothing that a union can give you that you can't already get, and more, in a non-union shop. Don't let them fool you. A job is yours as long as the company can afford to pay you. When they can't, you're out. No union can help you at that point. The real enemy is piss-poor executive mgmt which has routinely and predictably sank nearly every large ship that has ever set sail. In 3 yrs Verizon will be either a shell of its former self, broken up into smaller chunks and sold off, or spiral in on fire with flames shooting from its tail with its assets sold off at Craigslist prices. Even if you aren't offered a severance...update your LinkedIn page, dust of the paper resume, and get the f*** outta that place ASAP!

Northeast here. Small store axed an SM leaving it with just one GM and one SM. Don’t think you’re safe if you only have 2.

If the unions can give Post-2003ers the same job protectIons as Pre-2003ers, people would listen. That won't happen though. Chris and Lonnie could go down as legends if they fought for that.

17 years in Wireless Network and all for nothing. Actually glad it happened. Sick of the BS anyway.

LOL @ Blue Sapphire / Blue Turd...

Lowell is going to bankrupt Verizon and he is spending your pension to do it. In the end, leadership will walk away with its golden parachutes and leave everyone else with a big fat ZERO.

Go pitch your union BS somewhere else...

Hmmm...sad to hear that Verizon is Cleaning house at Wireless. I work for the Wireline side of the company which is unionized and thankfully, I still have my job after 10 years. Don't get me wrong, it's not a walk in the park at Wireline either but our Union has fought for us to keep our jobs despite all of Verizon's shady tactics. The very same Union that the Wireless employees verbally abused, called the police on, and shunned when we were on the picket lines in front of Wireless stores fighting for our jobs last year. Now you know how it feels to be on the receiving end. What goes around comes around. I could go on and on about my grievances related to superficial and pretentious wireless employees, but I will digress and say this.....If Wireless employees want any chance of sticking it to this company...they have to UNIONIZE! The only language the company understands starts with "no mercy". They don't give a damn about your livelihood, you don't give a damn about their debt or expenses. If the boat is going to sink....we all go down together! F**k it!

Diverse my azz you pathetic tool. Regardless of race or gender you always hire THE BEST always. I'm sorry if that ends up being 80% white. So it makes sense to hire people of every walk of life, even if it means someone that is under-qualified over someone more qualified? That whole diverse BS is exactly that and everyone knows it, except brainwashed morons like you..

they need to unionize Verizon entirely and cut the head of the snake like sprint did. They also need to be more diversified or fair when hiring higher management positions. I noticed at our last kick off meeting over 90% were white even in markets that reflect otherwise. They need a John Legere type of CEO just don't be like T-Mobile who is the Walmart of cell service carriers since they don't pay well. By 3 days ago by LayoffLowellMcAdam

lost my job after 7 years. poor business decisions, shady sales tactics which contributed to high churn and customers leaving vzw. with no RSS/Operations Specialists in the stores, the shrink will go through the roof. They claim that the new inventory application, SAP, makes everything easier - IF you have experience with Operations, the system can be learned eventualy.. If you are a selling Solutions Manager, or a Solutions Specialist with no Customer Service/Ops background, your store is screwed.

In the west area this has been a long time coming. Sorry to say but I agree that the leadership of Verizon is a serious joke. Worthless managers and even worse DM's. floating DM was a joke to begin with. I've met too many worthless GM's who should have been out long ago. Not a single manager at my store could do ops so good luck on that. They really don't give a sh-- about their employees and I was a performer. 4 years winner circle. So glad I left before this sh-- went down.

My mother worked for Verizon for 19 years, she was head manger for 9 of those years. After having some health problems she had to step down and became the operations manager. which she has been doing for the past two years. She could easily run the entire store and has had to step in and help the mangers many times since stepping down. She has always loved working for verizon and would have kept working there til she couldn't work anymore. Even with all the changes that have taken place this past year and all the added stress that the company put on its employees she still supported them in every way. So when she got a call from work today she never imagined she would be losing her job. She is truly heartbroken over this situation. Verizon didn't give their employees any kind of warning or notice that this was going to take place. She is 55 years old and the though of having to find another job is terrifying for her. I have truly lost all respect for Verizon and will be ending all my services with them.

This is the product of the company making piss poor decisions with its money. A legacy of bad accquisions (Yahoo? Seriously?), poor management, and cronyism, and we are the ones that have to pay for it. Want to save some money? Cut the head of the snake.

For what it's worth, only the RSS layoff happened in my territory. Still have SMB, no specialist layoffs (actually some more openings), no store closings or district reorgs. I know others aren't so lucky but I was all worked up in a frenzy and turns out absolutely nothing on this list impacted me.

Nothing to do with tenure. Code of conduct (write ups) and/or scorecard

Field operations/ analyst is market specific. The south still has field operations while most other prior regions now markets already phased them out. All arrows are pointing to those positions being phased out.

I was thinking Ops = Sales Operations as in the field senior analyst jobs and market specific makreting jobs. Anyone hear anything about those positions? At this point I'm thinking this round of layoffs is focused on store employees.

Hearing all solution specialists are safe. Now they are rumored to be closing stores but relocating other ss to performing stores so you may see B stores with 18-20 ss going in for the kill. Better be a shark or you will be a little fish in a big pond.

I talked about all this with a director when this stuff was rumored to happen in January. They knew unlimited was coming and that was our chance to salvage layoffs. It was our job to bring people over and move plans up to unlimited. Hence the huge focus on data step ups. Instead we didn't have a huge impact on voice lines like we expected. And we've taken a huge hit on all these people lowering their huge data plans down to unlimited. While our target was 2:1 for step ups it really needed to be: 20:1 to maintain profits. Solutions Specialist is the safest job in the company, but they will use this to get rid of underperformers and employees that are poison to the morale. If you're on a written or worse you're probably gone just like what happened when Circuit City stores closed. They'll use scorecards and write ups as barometer for who stays and who goes. As far as SMs there will be only 1 in most stores and we'll probably have some sort of senior sales rep again. The idea of converting a SM to an SS is seen as an upgrade. In theory a better sales person selling full time.

To really sum everything up the people that would really be worried are those that are on a written or worse or have a non sales impacting position like RSS.
